Except when there's a Vanguard running around in neon green armor, for example.

Its honestly not hard at all to tell them apart. Blue white and gold are the complete opposite to red black and brown.

In a real medical battle there wasn't team colours. There were no uniforms. Some didn't wear any colours. In the 100 years war the English wore French colours with French emblems. As they laid claim to the French throne.

I'm sure friendly fire happened a lot back then whenever things devolved into a melee (the real definition of melee that is).

The battle of bosworth field was lost because the Lancaster archers mistook a banner for an enemy one and rained down arrows close range on them. It was foggy though. Those men retreated and decided to leave. The archers also left feeling ashamed of themselves. Quite a few other men seeing this betrayal got up and left as well.

tb needed to do this, by the time the customisation came along the game was becoming stale and boring. They needed to add something whiich would jazz it up a bit again. Also the colours restrict you to certain types for each team meaning that there will always be a difference between agatha and mason players. Plus in real medieval times you would find mean fighting under the same banner wearinga variety of colours and emblems.

Too bad deadliest warrior was crap...new itens and features are always better than colors to jazz it up a bit

I like my sexy peasant hat. That's why they needed customisation.

Honestly though how the hell are you people confusing black and white???

It isn't that easy as a archer to see who is who sometimes especialy by a fogy map like battlegrounds I need to point at the target to see who he is when I have my warbow and shoot 50-60m across the map

teams are confusing anyway, regardless of which side.

if i'm in doubt, i just sit and wait until someone attacks me first.
I made a steam guide on not killing your teammates and there's a section on discerning which team is which.

Just a little snippet:

"A lot of newer players have some difficulty discerning which team is which, more experienced players are familiar with the character models and voices but that takes a little while to learn and that’s fine. Colour wise the Agathian Knights are characterised by blue, white and yellow while the Mason Order uses red black and brown. Both teams use similar emblem and trim colours so they should not be used to judge which team someone is on, just look at the main colours. As for barbarians, they can be a little confusing but there’s an easy trick: if they’re shirtless they’re Mason, if not then they’re Agatha. That’s just how Malric likes it. Elite Knight armours are probably the easiest to figure out, bright white is Agatha and dark black is Mason. The picture below is just a screenshot of the customisation screen, on the left is Agatha's colours and on the right Mason's."

If I were sent off to fight in a battle for my kingdom I would wear the crest of my family, Assuming that I even had one. If I didn't I would wear something unique to represent that I come from "this heritage" and I am here to honor my family and serve my kingdom.
I dont know if I am right, but I think that this might be a reason why there are different clothing and stuffs.
