Drags guide: How to do them, how to deal with them.
There seems to be a lot of people here having trouble with drags, so I thought I would write a simple guide on how to perform the more common drags, and how to deal with them. I may flesh this guide out at a later date with more advanced drags, depending on the reception this thread gets.

First off a few disclaimers; drags are not an exploit, they are an intended game mechanic that has been in the game since before the game was released. The devs have stated they are intended many times. Finally, dpi mouse settings have little effect as attacks have a speed cap during release.

Basic drags.

1. The lookdown.
How to do: Look down at the ground either before, during or directly after windup of your overhead. For best results, lookdown directly after windup has finished. You can also aim your overhead at your opponents right shoulder to get an even faster lookdown (credit Sora)

How to defend against: As with any drag watch your opponents head and shoulders, if they are looking down be ready to look up and parry quickly, crouching and looking up can help give you extra time to react. If you block it, now is a good opportunity to riposte; your opponent will likely still be looking down and might not see the riposte in time.

2. The delay overhead.
How to do: Simply look up before during or directly after windup of your overhead. Again for best results lookup directly after windup has finished.

How to defend against: Again, watch your opponents head and shoulders; if he looks up then be prepared for a delay. Don't panic parry, just wait a little, then parry, the timing needed for each weapon will come with experience.

3. Accelerated slash and delay slash.
How to do: Simply press lmb or alt + lmb to do a slash attack, now to accelerate look in the direction your swing is travelling, or towards your opponent, to delay it's the opposite, look away.

How to defend against: Watch your opponent, which way does he look and parry fast, or wait a little depending on which kind of attack performed. If someone is delaying massively with avslow weapon such as zweihander, then a good idea is to run towards his sword to make the parry connect sooner than expected. A riposte in this situation can often be unexpected.

4. The stab drag.
How to do: Basically a stab drag is where you start a drag near your opponent, drag it away from them, then back in. There are many forms of this, but all of them are designed to get around a players parry/shield.

How to defend: If you see someone start a stab then see them quickly look left to right or vice versa, this is a stab drag, be prepared to parryvlate, and also to turn and block on your left as most times this is where they will try to hit you. Another stab drag you will see them stab above your head then move the sword down as late as possible. Just parry as pate as possible, crouching can help.

5. The reverse overhead/360 overhead.
How to do: Get as close as possible to your opponent, lookup and overhead, then turn smoothly round 360 in one motion, once you are facing away it helps to walk backwards towards your opponent to keep them close. Finish the turn and if you hit them, combo into another attack.

How to defend against: This is basically down to how well you can read this attack, which comes with practice and experience. Watch the head and shoulders, and footwork. If you successfully read, and the guy is very close then parry immediately then riposte into his back. If he is a little further away you can try the same thing or you can simply step back, wait for your opponent to finish their overhead, and then you can step in and try to land a free hitvwhen they are in recovery.

This covers the main basics and I hope this helps you guys out. Have fun!

It's only basic drags...nothing that isn't well known really. And why not teach new players? Might stop some of the whine threads here if people actually understand what's going on/

Dragging is stupid. Ruins the game.

i wish they add damage tracers from dw to mv to make game more realistic
The game isn't meant to be realistic.

Fair enough, what is it meant to be? If it's supposed to be "fun" I bet a survey would find that most players think drags and their implausible physics don't help that either.

I found a better game for your anti dragging sensibilities!

May 2014, a 2 year old thread, good job digging it up.

At least it's one of the better posts.

It's actually fairly relevant and should be stickied to the top of the forum.
If you cant get into "dragging" aka "using the game mechanics", well it's time to uninstall and find something else.

Well yeah but the guy reviving it offers 0 contribution and has been necro'ing all kinds of ancient threads for "fun".

Besides, noobs will always whine about drags. It's in their nature. No matter how many guides, instructive information or literal facts about the game you shove in their faces, they will still not budge in their bias and they'll quit the game regardless.

The only thing you can do is hope they don't spam the forums with a hundred more complaints on their way out.
That's natural selection at its finest.

funny. Nice to get a peak in the past when you had the energy to take the time for such things Beast. I'm sure the years have worn you down with the repetitiveness of the same old complaints.
Screw drags to hell as not only a disbalance to the system, they're ridiculous to any immersion to typical combat. You're lucky the devs are focused elsewhere to simply say they're alright to, 1) Avoid any expectations for a fix, 2) Smooth community relations between people screaming they're cheaters, 3) Excuse their own design fault.
