So what exactly does "Animation LOD Bias" do?
I wonder if it just sets the distance at which the animations are shown in full detail (maximum fluidity) or if it is just a general setting for all the animations at all distances (even those up close)?

Anyone done some tests or any dev who can shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance! :)

It sets the distance. So at High even animations far away will play almost all the frames.
At low you'll see that farther animations will only play certain key frames.

I don't want to gimp myself when playing on a server with 50+ players. :P
Will setting this to medium still give me all the frames in close combat, say against a spear vanguard?

Yes, all settings will give you high quality animations within their range. But you don't want to set it lower than medium as halberd or brandi can start an attack outside their range and still hit you via footwork.

Word of advice though, don't ever join a 50+ player server. It's unstable. You won't be able to parry. You'll have lower FPS than usual, you'll have higher ping than usual. Server will have plenty of spikes. Everything will be chaos and teamwork will be next to none. No matter where you go you'll get teamhit. It's just bad.

Somehow I enjoy playing as an MAA on this 64 players server with limited archers. It's like the hardest thing ever but it can feel so rewarding coming out on top as an MAA amidst the chaos via footwork and dodging. I know I'm weird. :D

Gonna try setting animations to medium. My 4790k can maintain 60 fps that way even with 64 players in most situations.

Thanks for answering btw.

I would never play a game without lots of them and they need to be perferctly animated as well

Anyone under an impression that after they added this setting animations of far players aren't as detailed as before?

Not sure bro.

Sorry I don't get you.... Spamming lmb and dodging around a cluster fu*k of lag and low frame rates is not fun in any way. Those servers give you no challenge unless you like challenging your patience with desyncs, morphing players and animation stutters and that is without changing that setting.

Back to that, the lower the setting the better your FPS. You really dont need to see all the animations of players out of your combat range.

I fully understand. I just enjoy lots of chaos personally but I also love when 1 on 1's randomly happen when you meet someone in a more secluded area. Ofc some of the more experienced Zweihander 3rd person spammers usually lead the board but I'm happy when I managed to do well as MAA.

I agree lag is annoying but I can play a few hours usually with about 60 ping before the server crashes and restarts. Not perfect at all, but I guess that's just the flaws of the game's code.
Also I'm not spamming lmb. I usually stab more frequently than lmb or overhead.
