The double axe is a slow weapon, so it's not surprising people are blocking your combo. Once they get hit once, they have plenty of time to see the next strike coming. Read some of the guides posted in the beginner's FAQ stickied at the top of the discussions page and keep practicing, you will get better in time.
And thanks to you to. =)

Yeah it's one of those games that's easy to play but really hard to master. All the mechanics are simple, but there is so much flexibility that people have learned to do crazy things with them.
If you want to get really good my biggest suggestion is to fight with the best players you can find. You can only become as good as the people you play against.
Double Axe is a tough weapon to use when you are fisrt starting out. Same with the Flail. They have very short reach and are slow.
Until you master Dragging timings and how much you need to rotate to parry the tip of incoming weapons properly, you should practice using slow weapons with a little more reach... Bearded Axe or Messer are good choices.
Another poster mentioned that the "Parry" activation and recovery times are the same, that's true but... each weapon has its own recovery time after the release/strike.
Dub-Axe has a 0.85 second recovery before you can initiate a parry. This means a "swing and a miss" will almost always be followed by you getting hit from most weapons before you have a chance to parry because all weapons windups range from .3 to .75.
Make sure you are close enough to make them parry at least... the parry recovery time at least will add .5 before they can strike at you. UNLESS they use "riposte"... learn to use Riposte after your parry, ALOT.
Here is a spread-sheet with some stats that may help:

Also, i need to mention that you MUST have a fast PC with no running background tasks and a "clean" Fast internet for all these "values" to be as accurate as possible... most online games use LOTS of predictive calculations that can be "slushy" PLUS, you might have GREAT low ping and average latency but the other guy doesnt and/or visa-versa..... Have you ever been killed by a sword that passes you 2 or more feet to your right or left?... and then the guy that just killed you, Tea-Bags an invisible body laying 2 or more feet from where you fell?..... yep, there's that. Happens to me all the time on my Hampster-Wheel-powered_Potatoe. GREAT FUN!
GOOGLE... bring on the GiGabit-net... PLEASE!
Learn Reversed Overhead, dragging, or at least feinting. But no mAtter how you get them...thy will cry about it and try to kick you in the worst case
