First of all, it doesn't show damage type.
Dane Axe, like all axes, does CHOP damage. Which is a mix between SLASH (from swords, effective against light classes) and BLUNT (from clubs/blunt objects, effective against heavy classes)
So axes are generally speaking better weapons against knights. Even if the in-game stats screen makes it seem like swords have higher overall damage, the axes will likely be a better choice against knights while not immediately giving up their effectiveness against light classes, contrary to blunt weapons like the Flanged Mace.
Dane Axe is also the longest one handed axe available. It's great when combined with some occasional delayed swings to catch opponents off-guard who were expecting a super fast secondary.
Also there's a minimum windup for each weapon. This means that, apart from combo's, some of the 1handed swords are just as fast as daggers. Both of them are at the minimum windup time.
Too lazy to check the spreadsheet right now, but I think Dane Axe's stab is either in that minimum time as well or very close to it, thus making it one of the most versatile weapons. Super fast stabs + slow overheads = confused opponent.
