im wondering if this game is worth buying. Are there active players? Are most of them veterans? How many players on average?

legacy player base. I love the game but people are only on in the evenings for me. (NA)

A must buy I'd say especially on sale. Chivalry 2 being released in June. This is a good time to start playing.

There are still people playing, most of them veterans.

It is hilarious and fun. It's easy to pickup and play, but difficult to master. There's typically only one or two servers active in the evening in NA or EU. It's tough to play across the pond because any ping over 120 substantially affects gameplay. Can't recommend the game enough -- it is probably my favorite multiplayer game of all-time -- but at this point wait for a sale.

There's currently around 300 concurrent players at peak times (mostly in EU and US) (https://steamcharts.com/app/219640).

You can see current numbers at any time here: https://refactor.jp/chivalry/?country=CONTINENT_EU

The current price of £18.99 is a bit steep. Feel free to add me on steam and I'll gift you a copy

It's not "camera exploits", it's learning how to swing your sword. If you don't bother to learn the mechanics, you will never ever compete with good players, just like in any other game like Starcraft or any modern shooter. After about 500 hours of play, I can now stomp any low level player and can hold my own against the top players. Why do you expect to be able to win without learning how to play?

Not many people play this game anymore. Theres a game like it that has a bigger playerbase called Mordhau, it more balanced then chiv 1, but if mordhau isnt what you want try waiting for chiv 2 theres no point in getting chiv 1 nowadays.

Game is still played yes. Moreover, there are more new players than the last time I played, so feel free to try this gem :)

This game isn't worth buying, trust me. U will get 1 shot on pixel/enemy will blow ur head with 360 hammer strike etc. There is no fun of playing against players with few k hours. Just wait for chivalry 2.

- the few remaining active duel yards and FFAs are all about spam killing and team killing, particularly among the lowest ranked and 50+ players
- a couple of games for levels 1-15 are still active. Might be worth the money for new players who want to learn and practice before Chiv 2 comes along

Just wait for Chivalry 2. There are many veterans with a few k hours invested in this game, (playing still) that to a point you will most likely die in an instant.

If you're worried about more experienced players, join the official low rank servers. Only low level players are allowed to join. It's a good place to learn and get better without getting wiped out all the time.
