yes, we have 3 factions.
Their playstyle can be adjusted to some degree by choosing different heroes and different skills for them, but we don't have a super deep modification system like Age of Wonders has.
So the game has practically the lowest number of available castles of all games of this type - which makes it very repetitive.
Is there any roadmap? Are there any more factions/castles planned? Which are different from each other and are not "good people, bad people, desert people, cultists with a few skeletons, also people". I hope so... because this is one of the reasons why songs of conquest was a minor disappointment for many - which the developers understood and moved/changed the entire roadmap to increase the number of available "castles".
when campain is important for some sort - it's one short and long term player base is builded by options of castles and not campain.
Keep in mind, our game is a bit different from something like Heroes of Might and Magic. Each faction has its own mechanics, and the units come with unique perks that allow for combos more complex than just infantry, archers, and cavalry.
i have mentioned mix of 3 games and not heroes. I understand that. But in all of those games it's like you said. How many units is here for one faction? they can be upgraded? and change visualy?
Crusade have some pretty unique faction mechanics with their 'capital' city being a giant magic black hole that can move around destroying other cities to absorb them.
There are a high number of units, besides the base troops your faction gets, often times villages and cities will allow production of other types of units.
There are also several production items that produce a random unit of that type which again drastically increase the amount of potential units one can use.
But the diversity in which each faction can play out is heavily determined by two things, cards and heroes/sub classes.
As your heroes level up they are presented with 3 upgrades to choose from, which can offer a multitude of things such as new spells, upgrading current abilities or unlocking new structures.
Each settlement has space for one structure, and these can boost resources or offer new types of units.
As for heroes, each of the three factions have a pretty huge roster of heroes. You start off with 2 heroes for each faction unlocked, and then there is meta progression where you continue to unlock more and more heroes for each of the three factions, and some that are shared between all 3.
And if that is not all, each hero has several sub classes which brings an enormous amount of diversity in your starting hero (and ergo, the early game) and to heroes you recruit in match.
The sub classes wildly different from each other, to the point where each sub class feels like a totally different character in their skills, cards, structures and units they can produce.
Age of Wonders and HOMM were never AAA titles too. Maybe AA.
So what is it what i can expect from the game? Ive played the demo and i can see theres potential to get good as HOMM5. But then i read the forum and i get the feeling the game is just a little adoption, like a LITE version of the games i liked to play. So, what does the game want to become? I mean maybe im ok with a LITE version but i would like to know before what i can expect.
