So Space Elf weapons screw me out of all other weapons?
I'm noticing alot of weapons say if I have various Xeno Proficiencies I suddenly can't use human weapons anymore. What kind of sense does that make? Am i misreading this?

I ran a sniper with aeldari weapon proficiency back in the days, had no problems equipping "normal" weapons. Maybe the description ingame is misleading.

Lore wise, the 'elf' weapons are vastly, vastly more technologically advanced than human ones.

It's like somebody handing you a rail gun, and you decide you want to keep using a slingshot.

That is only applying to non human companions.

A character that naturally has those abilities, due to them themself being Aeldari (or their darker Drukari cousin), is what prevents them from using human weapons.

So it is a bit misworded, as its not actually to do with the proficiency, its due to the racial backgrounds that naturally have those proficiencies.

The proficiency thing really should just apply a malus to aim / operational efficiency versus not allowing you to use it at all... I imagine it would be like someone handing me an M4 to fire when the most advanced thing i've ever handled is a stone tipped spear. Its going to take me at least a little bit to learn the quirks of how to aim, how to clear jams, clean and maintain it etc compared to a primitive weapon. It kinda feels like artificial gatekeeping for the sake of giving us something to spend a talent point on instead of a mechanic that makes logical sense to me. Anyways, Silly video game logic, best not to overthink it xD.

That "little bit of time to learn the quirks" is exactly what the proficiency perk represents.
You learned the quirks instead of spending the time on learning a new spear technique.

The gear limitation listed in jivebots' OP is mostly used to restrict who can wear human/elf/astartes armor and wield astartes weapons.
Physiological limitations- humans and elves can't wear eachothers clothing because they **don't fit**, and no normal human will EVER be able to heft a space marine gat.
I do agree aeldari should be able to learn a "human weapon proficiency", but it's not the end of the world. Just feeds into their reputation for arrogance.

I actually kinda agree with you on second thought, well spoken lol

I'm not even high enough level yet to learn Drukhari and Aeldari proficiencies(Assuming that's an option).

but reading the various requisites for them in their descriptions, most of them have a "Must Not Have" requirement which then goes on to list all the various Human Weapon/Gear proficiencies.

Honestly, the fact there's only 2 party members in the entire game who can even use the space "Elf" armor, I think the sheer amount of how much the game gives you in the form of loot is absurd.

Like, what the hell am I supposed to do with the 10 identical copies of Drukhari armor I've got in my inventory?

Turn it into "Xeno artifacts" and sell it for a MASSIVE profit.
Finishing Chapter 3 should max you out on cabal rep lmao

sorry for the necro but to make it clear:
You get a story companion who can handle these weapons while not being of the requried species. Said companion was better of using imperial weaponry and could equip both turning the character into a swiss army knife capable of switching to the weapon set best suited for the job mid combat.
As mentioned by others:
The two alien characters you can recruit are the ones who can not equip human gear and the perks are just not well worded.

Yeah and looking at it more, I noticed it specifically says Drukari and Alderi equipment, not proficiency. So when we look more closely at wording, and compare it to Ulfar wearing or not wearing his armor and how that limits certain weapons (your Astartes limitations), it appears that it has to do with that most specifically. Its because those companions wear that type of armor, and that seems to be what is limiting weapon choice, if not the basic race factor itself.

This seems like the most logical thread as to why and specifically how it works.
