I should point out you have a navy origin companion, so if you want your RT to be something unique then it might be worth giving that a miss.
If you are concerned about being heretical, you could play your CL as someone who was trying to get out of the pirate game. Or feels bad about it.
In this game, I think no background goes into the heretical on its own, your choices are what matter and the main game reactivity is based on your convictions. About world pick reactivity - none. Background - slight, but nothing major (an additional dialogue option here and there), a bit more reactions/options if psyker. Archetype reactivity - none.
Voidborn Crime Lord Operative
The child of a naval officer, orphaned and sent to a Schola Progenium, where he grew up and secured a place amongst the Tempestus Scions. Rising to command a small special forces detachment, he fought with distinction in numerous engagements around the Segmentum Obscurus, but eventually "went Ratling" when he realized that he and his men could put their skills to better use in the black market
- first to provide frontline Astra Militarum with critically-needed weapons and supplies denied to them by selfish and incompetent rearline officers.
- then to provide various luxury goods and entertainment to the AM, because hey why not? Work hard play hard?
- and eventually just flat out running whatever they wanted to whoever they wanted (mostly themselves and their network of dependents).
His unit became so good at "unsanctioned clandestine operations" that he became de facto ruler of a system, but on at least one occasion his flesh-trading spiraled so out of control that it resulted in an entire starbase falling to Slaanesh. He's been trying to Go Legit since then, due to the fact that as a voidorphan he hates Chaos more than he loves riches, and maybe Rogue Trading will provide the ideal opportunity to do this?
