Failing quests without fault of my own
I just failed companion quests by starting chapter 3. I had quests pending from Jae and Cassia. Both still quests still needed a travel to the capital city. There was neither plot wise reason to suspect that those quests would fail, neither was there a gameplay warning that those quests would fail by starting chapter 3. Hell, I didn't even know I was starting chapter 3.

The failure announcement was made long enough after that I could do anything to change the result (what kind of boggles my mind why fail the quest long after the player in the save game had obviously no way to complete the quest). And I am still not sure why there is an arbitrary decision to fail those quests. There is no plot relevant reason why they should fail.

I don't have a savegame before the start of the "ceremony", so I can't change anything anymore, but nevertheless I at least wanted to express my disappointment.

I absolutely agree that it made pretty much no sense that the ceremony failed some quests

But dont you have an auto save from before that? If you didnt disable them you should have gotten one at least. And what about any manual saves? Do you save over the same save all the time?

There should have been at least some indicator that this would fast forward time and hint at "any unfinished buisness you may have should be resolved now"
Or at least the quests failing after you get control of your char again after the talks so if you made a save before it you can just reload instead of going through the whole thing to get the "quests failed" notification
I went with the one save only option (Grim Darkness), as in other games iron man save has always kept me away from savescuming and since a year had past since release and people were sounding a lot more positive about the fixes in game, I thought I was safe from getting my game ruined by things out of my control.

Playing for the first time with ironman enabled is honestly very dumb. Not only you have a miserable chance of success, but you also disable saves which prevent you from loading to escape bugs or change outcomes etc
Don't play on Grim Darkness as your 1st run... if you want a perfect run. You are sure to make mistakes. And I don't mean the try is bad - playing on Grim Darkness, knowing nothing of what to expect and eventually beating the game is impressive. Just don't expect perfect ending sliders.
Nah that is on you imo. Every game I have ever played when you progress the world state side quests get closed off.

Now you might not have known it would move the story along and maybe that needs a warning but after so much time with crpgs it is just expect.

Skip dragons dogma 1 and 2 for sure if you don't like time or state based quests
In general I don't play RPGs more than once and I don't want a perfect game, I just don't want a game where I am told that I have failed a quest an hour ago, but I am informed about it only now.

I know I flew all the way back to Footfall to join Jae party and when I got there the quest had vanished. That had me wondering what is going on. No warning or anything that the quest had a time limit.
