Perils of the Warp: Insta-killed on first cast
Hello people!

I believe this picture tells the story:

First round of combat, didn't check my veil degradation before casting an Arc Lightning.
Suddenly the fight became a lot harder.

So much for the Emperor Protects.

Anyone know the chance of this particular outcome happening when using veil 'spells'?

You should check you talents. But anyways - talent "Unsanctioned psyker" says 5% chance of Perils of the Warp occuring. What is the chance of something extremely bad happening from said Perils? Don't know, the effects are random. Most memorable one is Idira self KO + demon appearing.
Like Hidetsugu said, Unsanctioned Psykers still have a chance to trigger Perils of the Warp even if you are not over the threashold which can easily lead to a random 200HP demon appearing (I had a screamer of Tzeentch appear but other demons can also show up) and ruining a fight

Though this has happened to me about... 7 times in my entire campaign (only 2 were really bad)
I read somewhere that, unlike the table top, this game only has 20 events but I did try to look into it but there is not much on the internet (or I didnt use the right terms) about this
So for all I know its about a 1/20 after triggering the effect which itself is a 1/20 (5%) chance so a 1/400 chance (0,25% chance).
Assuming ofc that what I read is the truth, and assuming each event has an equal chance so take the actual chance with a huge grain of salt

If you dont want to deal with perils of the warp like that (as long as they arent over the perils of the warp threashold) you will get another psyker later who is sanctioned

The peril was cool, it added spice and character to the game. Often magic wielders are so much stronger than martial characters, so it's a fun way to see the game being balanced.

Thank you for the numbers btw, I figured it would be a low chance but a 1/400 so early in the game made me believe it had a lot bigger chance. Good to know!

This 5% chance is a drawback for idira being unsanctioned. Be glad. In the table top it was all psykers.

Honestly been considering suggesting it to the devs as a way to balance psykers.... but I didn't want to become the most hated player lol

I would be fine with that for all psykers. It just adds more planning and care to the game, which I like.

That said I kinda wish perils would cause the psyker to become posessed by a demon and instantly a new boss level threat replaces that character. Hehehehe

Those daemons don't provide extra XP when you kill them, do they? That would be an interesting risk/reward factor.

They do, but it is a very small amount. Although I guess you can waste hours upon hours stalling every battle until you psyker(s) blow themselves up for that 1 extra level...

This is my one grievance about the whole thing. no XP for demons. . .However, you also don't need to kill them to end combat, so I guess that balances.

Do they still only target the player, or have they been updated to wreak havoc on whatever is closest? If Demons just raged on anything within range I would consider this balanced and acceptable, but in my opinion they should either give XP or be hostile to everything (that isn't also a demon)

New development: do the parallel/alternate Idiras if you use her for the DLC astropathic ritual (as well as extra warp apparitions that spawn in every turn) provide the same "very small amount," enough to maybe or maybe not be worth it?

(I am also very curious about what humorous reactions the cast would have to "Idira, Bastion of Faith" were they not fighting for their lives.)
Once you're late enough in the game, when this randomly summons a daemon, it'll just melt like everything else.
