Yeah many of them are indeed very anime-like (which is fine, but not the style of the game), or "fanservicy" (to put it mildly as in NSFW lol), but there's also a lot of quality immersive ones too where people definitely try their best to replicate the in-game style of default portraits. Even with some AI generated ones too doing the same and quite well. :)
There may be some hidden gems for you there still. I just took a look myself yesterday because I'm too lazy/unimaginative to make a new custom portrait atm for a new character this time. I might still do it.
The problem with portraits in games like these is that if you're OCD about what your character looks like in relation to your portrait, it doesn't matter if there's only 10 default/custom portraits available to you or a million.
If none are exactly like the way you want your character to look, then none of them will ever do. For this game there's actually a few default ones that are based off in-game Origin attire + in game appearance features, but not enough, I might make a female Noble with a white clothing colour scheme, just to use that one female Noble portrait with the Noble at the party w/ the wine glass, that can be near perfectly replicated in-game as the dress is actually based off Noble starting attire and the white turns the inner Noble coat black just like the picture. :)
It's why a long time ago I started to create my custom portraits out of other ones, and make them perfectly reflect my character down to the armour being worn and facial features starting with NWN (I didn't feel the need with BG1 and 2). Then a hiatus as portraits became a thing of the past in RPGS and started modding in custom amours etc. with DAs, Fallout 3, Skyrim and the like. Then picked back up portrait creation for Pillars of Eternity 1, 2 (when I got good at it by creating Godlikes with layers + good recolouring/blending), Tyranny, then Kingmaker, Wasteland 3, Wotr (trying to make a Kitsune custom portrait was the hardest ever that could fit the game lol), then this.
I think I have saved myself hours upon hours of searching for portraits I will never find 95% of the time or become bored of, and then re-rolling characters just to change looks/portraits again and again. This way I just spend a few hours making a custom portrait myself that's exactly the way I want it or perfect it over time. The magic of Photoshop or GIMP (what I use), is that you don't really need to be a really good artist. Just have a good eye (at least one :p :P ). Then up your cropping skills, use of dozens of layers to make life easier and perfect your re-blending/scaling techniques thus smooth out edges and resharpening the image so it doesn't look blurry.
Here's a mini guide I re-posted about a month ago on the following topic, along with my main portrait I made for the game out of the existing Female Psyker one (which since then I have edited a little to fix the discolour on lips etc.):

TLDR: You can spend forever looking for a portrait that doesn't exist and no amount of portraits default or otherwise will satisfy someone that's obsessed with the perfect looking one. i know from personal experience. In this case, make you're own portraits!! See the link above. :) :)

I love having Abelard in my party, and having the Weserians be the family that hosts my ♥♥♥♥ on Dangorus or whatever the planet is named. It feels so good.
Nah I'm feeling a $15 official portrait DLC with AI artwork.
Sounds like you really love that man"s face! lol
Like in Baldurs gate and nearly any other moddern game. Full price games! Like this is too.
Just saying..
