Genestealer encounter, VERY underwhelming.
So I happened upon an event that had me searching through an abandoned wreck on a random planet. Immediately got that "chill" from the setting, the little hints of "hearing the sounds of running water and chittering against the bulkheads"

So naturally being the 40K nerd I am, I was hyped, because I love that this game has introduced multiple races and really gone hard with the lore. And when I talked to the robed preacher in the vox cabin, my party frantically telling me "WE NEED TO GO!" and the first Genestealer popped out of a hallway. I literally said to myself "this is awesome"

Then... the Genestealer just proceeded to run away and I thought "Ok, well maybe its leading me into an ambush. So I gave chase, and another popped out, awesome I thought, this fight will be tough given their health. And the next one proceeded to run away, every round....

Then I escaped, not an ounce of damage, I even killed one...as it ran away... every round....

To say this mad me unbelievably sad is an understatement, guessing its a bug and the AI just broke? I can't imagine the developers programming such a credible threat this way.

Genestealers are parasites. The "gene" in the name comes from them being able to infiltrate human populations, by hijacking their reproduction methods, with infected hosts with altered genetic coding.
Genestealers mind control their victims by infecting them and after it use victims as they're to travel around and to create a cult so victims will have corrupted offspring. Compared with xenomorphs using victims bodies to feed their own larvas into maturity (and via dedicated face-hugger instead).

Yes, they share some common ideas of "alien monster" but IMHO quite different.

If it was easy to wipe out a gene stealer infestation... you didn't wipe it out.

Yes, but the differences are more because GW could not just outright copy the xenomorph.

Genestealers are surprisingly old, I've seen them in the first ever Rogue Trader/Warhammer 40K book, of course they look a wee bit different tho.

Ya i just fought them in that same place and I dont think they ever even got close mt my squad. Ended up using Cassia's ability to hold them in place and they just sat there and got blasted.

Honestly they should be closer to the fight in Act 4 with the Mandrakes.

You fight an endless horde of them and have to close the gates one by one.

you can also make that fight pretty underwhelming with enough mobility, had all the lights on by the end of the first round.

Yeah, and theres probably not going to be any drawbacks from dropping a food factorium on said planet either I bet either.

I thought this all was a parody map. Why else would purestrain genestealers hold butter knifes in each of their four clawed hands?

It is a parody, it's clearly the same tileset as SpaceHulk. It works exactly like a game of spacehulk in term of scenario. You're advancing until your reach the cultist, then "Escape while genestealers try to kill you".

Except it's only 3 of them to not make the joke 3h long.

Adding to the parody effect. For me the first one rushed abelard and failed his agility test... and faceplanted the ground.
Not familiar with Spacehulk. How does it parody it?

also talons are wrong. they should be in a stabbing position :)

I liked the nod to Space Hulk with that mission, but yeah, there being only three genestealers was a little weak. They didn't run from me, but they weren't exactly a challenge either. : \

my issue was more that you encounter them once. So they spent time for modeling, scripting, level designing, programming, animating for that one encounter, when they could spent the time for bug fixing, which was way more important. After release while the animators have less to do they could start working on those and put them into a DLC and use them more than once.

I think the encounter is fine, disappointing that it only was three.. it just seem to me like so much time wasted for that tiny outcome

(first I wrote "outcum"... .. I'll just disappear ashmed)

You do realize that the people who make models and animators don't fix bugs? It's not like there are five people who do everything in the game. It's either an animator animates something, or he is sitting on his ass. So the people who were modelling, animating and level designing this encounter were not tasked with it istead of bug fixing, it was either that level and enemies or some other content.

3 weak ass genestealers tripping on their own feet while at the same time... Holding knives ? When they can cleave through power armor with their claws ? :D

Yeah that kinda sounds like parody to me xD Seriously I laughed my ass out when the first genestealer tripped and fell like a bad silent movie from the 1920s.

Though... I don't know if it's voluntary parody of space hulk to take a piss at the blood angels, or if it's badly designed. But the knives, come on, knives ? :D It has to be a parody

Funny - I never considered looking on those Genestealers. My first reaction was quite lore-friendly : full auto, spray&pray ASAP :steamhappy:

Yes, Genestealer with butter knife in hands would be an easter egg indeed.

yes, I meant releasing/creating Genestealers when there's less workload on the team You still need programmers to implement them into the game and that time could be very well spent on bugfixing before the release.

Although. thinking about it. Depends how their sdk or how you can call it works. If it similiar to Bethesda games, you don't need exactly a programmer or similiar.
ah
nevermind
