HALP.....I think the game has given me OCD :(
Can't start to play, and it's all about character creation......

I want to have the 3D avatar match the portrait (including the Augments/Bionics....yes I know some of the "helmets" add the graphics for some of them, but more later). BUT that game (vanilla) doesn't have the options to match the Avatar to the portrait (such as a bionic eye on the right side). Then some of the Helmets add augments to the Avatar (but that's ok(ish) I just don't equip them or "hide" the helmet, although it doesn't always work for some items it's a bit patchy). OR the game adds Augments I don't want (like all Nobles getting a bionic eye on the left side like it or not). Likewise if a portrait shows a bionic leg or arm I want to have that reflected on the Avatar.

It's driving me a bit crazy, as I can't even use downloaded custom portraits UNLESS they are in the same style as the official ones (and I can match the Avatar to the new portrait). I think during the Beta there were some Augments and portraits that didn't make it to the release build because I remember finding a portrait and augments that matched (I think I was a Navy Officer with a beard and "wires" sticking out of the right side of his head, but that was the only one I got to match other than the default male noble Avatar and portrait). Some augments barely could be counted as a valid option (like who needs EIGHT copies of a red dot in eight different positions when there were some excellent options available in the beta that have disappeared).

So I just can't start the game at the moment, it's a "niggle" that ends up as an annoyance as I play. It just doesn't seem right when they don't match up. That "annoyance" then stops me playing as I them wait in the hope that there will be some mods published down the line that add portraits and augments that match up (been checking on the Nexus site every other day).

I've never had this reaction to a game like this before, never have I striven to match an Avatar and portrait to such exact extremes. So I truly think that Rogue Trader has indeed infected me with some form of OCD (or it's all down to the Gods of Chaos messing with my head :( ). Anyone else suffering from this kind of thing about the game?

Think of the portrait you select as a professionally painted portrait of your character that was done at some point in the near past. It doesn't match your character precisely because things have happened and changes have taken place since then, but it is still a good representation of you, and you don't mind that it isn't you as you are now because it is a reminder of who you were and where you came from. As you adventure and get new gear the two might grow apart even further, but the portrait remains as a testament to how far you've come.

Beautiful, and exactly what I needed to hear right now for the same reasons.
Irrc, if you select the Portrait the game defaults your character's model to be their 'best enough' attempt at making it with the options they had (so long as you've not changed the model first before changing a portrait, I think). At the very least, that's what I've done for my guy, and how I discovered there was an entire beard section I missed because I didn't scroll down, lol.
