It is till a far cry from high fantasy based rogues.
The reason he can double knife in pathfinder is its 1d6 for sneak attacks and you get a lot of them.
A sniper is nothing like a dual knife wielder. The most you can get is dual wielding 1 hand melee and 1 hand range weapon then going Arch Militant so you can constantly rotate them.
This game is devoid of all stealth. Assassins get out of line of sight bonus that is about it.
I dont see how a high fantasy rogue is anything like any of the classes in this game.
Knives can be used as other melee weapons, but they are usually weaker than the swords and axes. Some have special features, I believe the alien knives poison their victims, and I had some with 30% armor penetration. However, I kill most enemies at range, and melee plays second fiddle.
Since a D&D rogue isn't really about hiding before striking anymore, I disagree.
You absolutely can play a rogue who zips around an opponent in melee stabbing weak points with the Assassin subclass. Doubly so if you start out as operative. But Warrior also works because charge is so useful.
That is just describing melee.
Pathfinder you still had to flank an enemy to get back stab. Yeah you can Melee in RT. But it doesn't give me pathfinder rogue vibes at all.
Arch militant can zip over the battlefield kick someone. Stab him then blast him. Doesn't make him a rogue.
Nothing in this game gives me rogue vibes.
Yeah you can be a fast melee or ranged but it's not a rogue. Yeah you can be an out of sight sniper still doesn't make him a rogue
Long story short: you can play a 2 weapon fighting rogue-like - the Assassin. They can profit a bit from daggers specifically, but in general its often better to just use the two best 1h weapons you find.
Hiding isn't the same as dnd, but similar: the Assassin equivalent is called "Elusive Shadow" where you become the lowest priority target. Being sorta hidden like that provides a damage bonus on attack (so a bit like sneak attack from hidden), better cover efficiency, you can move through enemies etc. There is also a Talent called Ambush: if they don't have line of sight at the start of your turn, you get extra hit&crit chance.
