Anyone seen one yet? I in general like Owlcat. But their "No! You cannot (fully) respecc people who you meet later" has always made me roll my eyes.

Respec (base game):
  • Rogue Trader (MC):
    • Respec down to level 1. Unable to change first archetype.
  • Companions:
    • Respec down to default level. Meaning companions can be respecced to recruit level.

Respec (ToyBox, respec from 0 activated):
  • Rogue Trader (MC):
    • Respec down to level 0. Allows rechosing first arcehtype
  • Companions:
    • Same as Rogue Trader (MC)

For everything else (Voice, Visuals, Origin; Homeplanet) it's currently impossible (probably for a while?). Changing Portraits is also possible via ToyBox if you count that towards respec.

Ooh, thank you. I shall go do that. I don't care about the origin visuals etc, it's more the talents etc. that I want. Though now that that's an option I might make the tech priest into a warrior... For funsies. :D

It is possible to change your home planet with toybox, just not as simple.
I would recommend only doing this when you respec with toybox as well, so it doesn't cause any weird menu issues when leveling
1. Save the game. (Just in case)
2. In the toybox menu, under the party tab, go to your character and select the arrow next to features. Scroll down until you see your homeworld (ie. Fortress world) and click remove.
3. Go to the search n' pick tab and click features. Make sure your character's name is highlighted, then search for the new homeworld you want(ie. Forge World). Scroll down to the ones that say just the name of the world. Click "add" on the one with a description. The other is likely for npcs.
4. Close the toybox and check in the character menu everything worked

The problem with this is, there's an additional buff with some home world origins, such as subskin armor, analytics system, locomotive system for forged homeworld. How do you add one of those?

To be fair, that's been every CRPG until BG3. The ability to full respec your companions should become standard now, but it's not like this is unique to Owlcat.
But yeah, Toybox is brilliant and a must have for Owlcat games. Someone who come out with a good mod for respeccing more cleanly eventually.

Should be standard? So you can completely break ingame stories by respeccing mages with years of training into unga-bunga barbarian?

Actually scratch that, it doesn't work.

I tried modifying origins and other stuff, and it just bugs out.

Not possible to do, or at least get it to stick permanently.

Someone is going to have to legit make a full respect mod, down to repicking all options again.

My main hope was to redo everyone from level 1, not worrying about class changing. But I like the idea of making our Tech Priest a rounded fighter, because with him carrying weapons at once is great.

Is there a way to change the ship with toybox? I'd like to change how my ship looks as I bought the DLCs after starting a run

so at this point its not possible to change origin talents? For example i took psy ability called "Shriek", i dont want it, im stuck with it? My character is "Sanctioned psyker", thats why he has Shriek ability i guess.

I'm not so sure. On the one hand, being able to fully respec your companions to the point of changing their classes does eliminate the issue of not taking certain companions (and thus potentially missing out on some narrative elements) because their skills and class builds do not synergize with your main character's.

On the other hand, those characters' archetypes and classes are part of their identity. Being able to respec Ulfar into a psyker, for instance, would make no sense as he's not a Rune Priest or Librarian, and the Adeptus Astartes screen for psychic potential at recruitment, so they wouldn't overlook a potential recruit for the Librarium. After all, psykers are rare enough to begin with. Recruits who are genetically compatible with Astartes gene-seed and who can survive the selection trials are equally rare. A psyker who is also compatible with Astartes gene-seed is even more so.

The argument against full respec is weak and flimsy.

Abelard, idira and Argenta are not level 2 in lore. They have already had years of experience and been to the final world.

The only reasons later companions are locked is because we meet them act 2 and 3.

Sure lock base class for story but they get magically buffed to player level meeting you anyway and have their origin. All locking their level does is stop build diversity and player freedom.
