How to use powers?

So I'm on chapter 2 now, still pretty new to everything, and I need to kill Gene, the guy that's smoking, done 2 chores he still hasn't moved from the chair and the mom character is always running up against a closed door, so maybe I have to use telekinesis to kill him? How?

Telekenesis is used on keyboard (don't know the gamepad) with the number/symbol keys, Telekenesis is used as key 2 i believe. SPOILERS UPCOMING!---

As i read in a guide and it did work for me, you need to rig the oven with a screwdriver found before you enter the hall connecting bedrooms with dinner room. A handyman is working there, so you need to steal that from him. Then you need to steal Gene's matches on the table next to him, then he'll light his cigarette in the kitchen using the oven, and enjoy the scenery :p

Well, all I needed to do is to look at the controls, learning telekinesis was a bit tricky, but now I'm on chapter 5, so it's getting better. Thanks for your help. :)
