So there's a new PD2 update? Well, my Steam has yet to recieve it.
I'm also downloading several other games.
And knowing Payday 2 always have these odd download speed and chops...
Oh the horror...
I don't think OP is talking about the intro being unskippable or whatever.
The problem reside at the unwanted bandwidth / data storage.
Personally I don't give two ♥♥♥♥ about the intro movie, after watching it on youtube / Overkill site. That's it, I never really re-watch it ever again.
But for those of us who have a data limit, or limited hard drive, we'd prefer to not waste space on trivial intro movies like these.
Or for the really hard core fans, I'd guess they wouldn't want to wait for an extra hour download time just for something of a one time use. In comparison, they'd rather wait 30 minutes download for something they can play, and enjoy. Instead of a 2 hours download time, for a 30 minutes actual game contents.
Thanks, it sure helps a bit!
LOL, I guess it is. But I guess you also love when you click "Play" on steam and then the pop-up for "You clicked the play button. Did you really mean you wanted to play the game or did you want to see the support information for this game instead?"
Oh the horror. LOL. Yeah. Sad but true. But you probably already got it. As mentioned, I've been avoiding the updates for a while now. They've been taunting me and saying "You can't avoid me forever, and you know it, bwahahahah".
So I felt like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it while I waited for it to finish laughing at me and telling me that it's my own fault for having so many games on steam... And a little bit of wishful thinking the devs might be listening. After all, It's a complaint and a praise at the same time... Damn dialetics!
Once upon a time, I thought i liked borderlands 2. Then they started making the DLCs you didn't have nag you while in-game (by putting them on top of the fast travel menu) and opening the browser everytime you clicked on them by accident. I said "&*#! you, Gearbox, I already bought the game, stop trying to upsell me. I'll think two times before I ever buy a game from you again." Things like this usually push you the other way around... They don't get you excited. They just get you frustrated.
Think of your phone/cable company calling you to sell you a 'better' plan. When you want a new plan, you'll call them and ask for it. This is the digital equivalent.
So while Overkill is *still* much better than that, once quote-unquote marketing takes over a company, it's a slippery slope. Remember EA, remember EA.
Every patch with a trailer is me downloading everything fast and then waiting up to an hour for all my friends, some of whom have limited bandwidth.
I'm quite sure most of us see trailers online in the update announcements and skip intro to get right to the game when firing it up. Having links to the youtube versions would be enough for those who want to watch the trailers, and would save people with data caps some scarce traffic.
This is new content that they've made as a cutscene to push the game narrative along. It should be in the game by default, because it's part of the experience.
If you're honestly complaining about the bandwidth, upgrade from your AOL or DSL or whatever it is you have, or upgrade to an SSD. You would be amazed how much faster you download files after getting one.
1. Some people simply don't have access to quality internet where they live, for one reason or the other. They would upgrade if they could, there's cimply no way they possibly can. Downloading trailers in HD quality takes time in which they'll probably be able to watch the trailer online if they really wanted to or dive right into the game instead without any additional waiting.
2. Other people have caps on their bandwidth per month, sometimes as low as 20 GB per month.. Spending 0.5 to 1 GB from the monthly quota on a trailer that you can watch online in HD quality if you want to is a waste. Those who have unlimited bandwidth would lose nothing, those who have limited would save traffic. Simple as that.
I know people of both categories. Like I've said earlier, most of the time I have to wait for my friends to finish downloads for up to an hour, and sometimes due to different timezones we easily end up being unable to play together because of that wait.
An extra click doesn't bother me. But downloading a new movie every time Overkill releases a new trailer? No. I have limited internet per month and it's eaten up by ♥♥♥♥♥♥ trailers put at the start of the game that I, more often than not, already saw on youtube because they linked it in an announcement weeks prior.
Overkill. Stop doing it. It's obnoxious and annoying.
