Rattlesnake or R93 sniper?
I'm level 52 now, planning to get my first sniper.

Which is better? Rattlesnake or R93?

Rattlesnake has a higher ammo. while R93 packs more damage.

What's the max difficulty Rattlesnake can handle? Does it do well in 3 skulls, Overkill missions? I do participate a lot in that recently.

or the R93 is a better choice??

Planning to combine either one of them with Sweeper shotgun as secondary, either on triple 0 or HE special ammo.

I know Thanatos is good but I have not reach the requirements yet. Will save for that once I'm there.

The rattlesnake is absolute garbage take the R93.

Do not use the thanatos on anything but Deathwish; you are just wasting resources if you are using it on overkill and below.

short yet great advice... will heed to it. Thanks!

Rattlesnake is good, but mostly for the fodder. Takes 2 headshots for special units including shields (when going thru shield). Believe the ammo pick up rate is decent if you pick up ammo boxes and conserve by switching to secondary every now and then.

I see R93 as the special unit killer. Works well with bulldozers too (2-4 shots).
Seems wasteful to use it against the fodder though.

Guess it depends on what you are going to use it against.

R93 for all difficulty, also if you bought the historical pack i believe the Nagant sniper rifle is better since it has a higher damage, higher rate of fire, and faster reloading time. and don't forget the iron sight
If it is your first sniper, I would recommend the rattle snake as it has a higher ammo pool. On most difficulties, you wont need the extra damadge, but you will need the exra ammo if you end up missing a lot (which I did when I started sniping).

The R93 is fantastic. One, it has a higher stability, whereas the Rattlesnake kicks massively on every shot. Two, the R93 has a higher power which makes it competitive against Shields and Bulldozers without being too strong either. Three, if you have Fully Loaded Unaced, the ammo total is 38, which gives you, on average, 1-2 shots per pickup. Given that most enemies, even on Death Wish, are a one-hit kill, so long as you're quick, efficient and accurate, you won't run out of ammo. It's fantastically efficient.

If you compound it with Berserker Aced, anything except Bulldozers are killed in a single headshot from the R93 on Death Wish. I find the Mosin has a much bigger kick to it and the one-less-shot capacity can be a bit annoying at times.

Both are worthwhile sniper rifles depending upon your needs. As:

The Rattlesnake works best for handeling regular enemies and is decent at handeling specials enemies. Since The Rattlesnake has more ammo and and a bigger clip and can kill most regular enemies in a single hit. While the R93 is best at handeling speical enemies.

The Rattlesnake can be used from normal - overkill. But as speical enmies increase. You will notice the Rattlesnake's damage is not enough to kill all speicals with a single shot. So I whould suggest using it from only normal to hard and then swich to the R93 when you take on job above that.

The R93 you will likely want above the Rattlesnake since it can used at the Deathwish risk level as long as it modded and use properly. It has a smaller clip and less ammo but it can one hit most basic speical enemies and pose a significant risk to Bulldozers.

Summarized: Rattlesnake is not susgested to be used above hard. While the R93 can be used at any difficult given the mods and the skill operating it.

Rattlesnake sucks it cant even kill a shield with 1 shot

there is no point in using it for its ammo pool if you have Walk in closet perk you can pretty much have infinite ammo for R93

also R93 is better than Rattlesnake in every aspect beside ammo pool

only thing good about Rattlesnake beside ammo pool its his looks
cause it really looks cool in both wood and tactical variations.

also dont use 000 buck you just penalize your ammo pickup rate for tiny dmg boost
not worth it

The R93 is a great sniper with a decent ammo pool. You can easily pick your kills and make quick ammo runs to recover.

You don't need the ammo pool of the Rattlesnake if you know how to place your shots, and the double damage doesn't hurt.

Personally, I prefer the Mosin Nagant for its ironsights and the 5 less rounds compared to the R93 is negligible if you make quick picks and grab the ammo.

Edit: High concealment Mosin Nagant + Judge with no mods + low blow aced = One shot everything

I prefer the Rattlesnake, if you're specced right and have good aim you can kill all basic units, Tasers and Cloakers in a single headshot. With its high ammo pool and rate of fire, it really excels at killing tans and below.

I've been using the sniper from the Gage Historical pack lately and have been pleased with it, but I normally use the R93 for my sniping needs. Rattlesnake is alright for normal-Very hard if you're decent with it, but it's better to just use the R93 and collect ammo from dead cops.

The Rattlesnake is a great standard cop killing. One of the guys in my crew has his built so it kills everything but specials in one headshot on DW. It's definitely more effective if you treat it as a one-shot rifle and less like an actual sniper rifle.

Personally, I prefer the R93 as it kills standards and specials very effectively without sacrificing too much ammo. I run an R93 with a specular sight on at least half of my OVK and DW heists.

Both are plenty useful, but my recommendation is always to swap the scope for a sight that's more practical in the medium to short range scenarios that almost all maps have. There are very few, or possibly no, uses for an actual sniper in the PD2 heists, but the sniper rifles work fantastically as an on the ground weapon.

Pretty much this.

Rattlesnake's does one job really well and is statted for it (it also has a 25% shield penetration compared to 75%, iirc... So it's role is reenforced).

R93 and Nugget serve the same role. R93 being the performance weapon and the Nugget capable of getting critical hits.

EDIT: Rattlesnake's fire rate and ammo pool make it a good candidate for the Muscle deck. You can just blaze away without much problem.

The R93 is the absolute king of sniper rifles.

I used to believe that the Thanatos makes sense for DW, but to be honest, if you know how to aim with the R93 you will be much more effective with it. A Thanatos needs 3 body shots to kill a Bulldozer on DW, with the R93 you need three successive headshots, but that's it. Everything else dies to one or two headshots. Everything. You got a reasonable amount of ammo with a decent ammo pickup rate, it has high stability and the second biggest magazine of all sniper rifles.

The Nagant is no competition, the higher damage gives no no edge over the R93 in any scenario, I don't know a single occasion where you'd need one shot less than with the R93, but it has a higher recoil and less ammo.

When I use the R93, I use it for basically everything. If you don't see specials around you can switch to your secondary, but if you see a mixed group, just keep firing, your ammo reserves don't make it a waste. But don't use sniper rifles on anything easier than very hard, on normal and hard they are a waste in general. Rather use an M308 with 100+ damage.
LuckyPocketos Jan 8, 2015 @ 3:09am
If you can do Headshots well and have a good secondary to take out the mobs, go with R93.

If you are prone to bodyshots, or want to practice with snipers for a bit, go with Rattlesnake for better ammo pool/ROF.
