Best Melee weapon for melee build?

Title. Axe can oneshot greens and with full damage can oneshot greys and 2 shot tans on DW but is very slow

Trench Knife is very fast and 2-3 shots greens and tans, but doesn't have a hit and hide strat.

any others?

Personally I prefer a melee with a quick draw speed while maintaining decent damage, such as the machete, baseball bat, tomahawk, etc.

What is this 'damage' when talking about melee weapons?

Knockdown is all I care about and look for, I'm not going to be charging headlong into any 'JP36 60/90 damage per shot' DW Gensecs with the intent of pretending I'm a Killing Floor Beserker any time soon.
My melee key is my fallback "Oh crap, a wild enemy has appeared literally up in my face whilst I am turning this corner and/or in the middle of reloading"

I'd take a zero damage weapon like a tazer or something with the highest knockdown anyday.
Telescopic Baton/Bats/Hammer etc. is what I currently use.
Hotline Briefcase isn't bad for stealthy builds due to it's still fairly decent Knockdown yet maxed out concealment.

if you are going for high damage + speed go for the psycho knife. high damage + knockdown the fire axe is still your best bet. the most fun to use is the hotline miami baseball bat though :P

Many people see the purpose of melee weapons differently. Some see it as a knockdown utility, like you, while others see it as a super gimmicky DPS weapon, or a one-shot hit, etc, and that's cool.

I, on the other hand, went for a quick draw time while maintaining decent damage solely for the purpose of finishing off an enemy. The quick draw time being self-explanatory, while the more damage being for a better chance at killing the enemy without wasting an extra bullet.

Well it depends on if you want to tank or dodge. With a dodge crit build, trench knife = skulldozer slayer. With tank, I prefer the HM bat.

I'd say you'll not get much better than your Trench Knife. On my main build I have every melee skill excluding Counter-Strike, and I run Infiltrator. The Trench Knife is fast enough to keep muliple shields at bay and has enough DPS to finish off any non-special DW unit before they recover from a knockdown.

Not meaning to brag, but it says something about that knife that I once felt comfortable bringing down a Skulldozer with it on a public Pro Job.

I may be a little late to the party on this, but I personally prefer the Katana, myself. Great swing speed, excellent range, damage to rival the Fire Axe, and the knockdown is just as good, while also having a manageable concealment. Whenever I need a melee for any situation, the Katana is always my first go-to.

the Katana or the newest melee weapon (the chain from the biker pack) are the 2 best melee weapons.

Katana worked really well for me when I made a build to get the achievement for VH Boiling Point melee only completion. Did it solo and got it first try.

Katana, because of the damage, what comes with berserker and pumping iron. Buzzer, if I don't use listed skills. I still wanna check whip and axes, but this will be at the evening for me.
