Considering Payday 1 came out well before that I'm going to call shenannigans.

The Payday games take inspiration from lots of popular culture, like the movie Heat for instance.
Reksel Jun 24, 2014 @ 4:29am
It isn't inspired by The Dark Knight at all, but The Heat, and if it were so.. Dark Knight would've been inspired by PAYDAY: The Heist then.

Payday 2 was released 2013, and Dark Knight was 2008. It's more then possible that that scene was some sort of inspiration if you've watched the original trailers.

Payday 1 came out late 2011ish, I'm pretty sure it was well after the Dark Knight came out. But yeah Overkill have made it clear they draw inspiration from bank robberies in movies.

It is. They even copied the opening scene from The Dark Knight (where Joker stands at the street with a mask in his hand) for one of their earliest teasers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i05Zei--DRo
(at 10 seconds)

Then there's the Joker skill named after the Joker and an Achivement "No one cared who i was" which is a quote from Bane from one of the 3 Nolan Batman movies.

It's very obvious. It's also very obvious that Overkill took a lot from movies and series. It isnt just Heat as you seem to think.

And Simon Viklund said the inspiration for the original 4 masks came from the Dark Knight:

wouldnt it be copyright infringement?
Red Jun 24, 2014 @ 6:04am
...That's not how copyright infringement works.

Plus there's the escape where a bus crashes through a wall.

Well, the Big Bank certainly is. Bus Escape, ziplines on the roof, messing with an Electrical box..

There are a lot of similarities when you think about them.

we all know some obvious references to famous heists from movies, like the one from heat aka "armored transport". many others too. but the best movie for this game ,lots of masks, hostages, robberies and massive similarity to atmosphere of the whole payday franchise, is movie the town from 2010, with ben affleck and jon hamm. it's not well known movie, but every payday fan should watch it. i mean:

:D
i would also like to see those nun masks in some of the future updates :dallas:

Dark knight references aplenty here.
Electrified vault door on FS day 3, Bus crashing through the Benevolent Bank wall, the ones ShadowAngel already mentioned, and i'm sure there's more.
And then there's all Heat references, and a bunch of others from other heist flicks.

Uh...

PAYDAY: The Heist - Released in 2011
The Dark Knight - Released in 2008

I have no doubt that the Clown masks were inspired by The Dark Knight in the first place. There are plenty of other references and inspirations for PAYDAY, such as Heat, Point Break, and other movies/events, but PAYDAY as a whole is a unique specimen.
