Frankly, Jiro is a great opportunity to introduce stylistic substitles. I'd actually like to see a unique subtitle font for every character. That way I can tell who's talking even when the game gets loud.

Jiro probably NEVER learned English in his line of work and it's implied he just recently got out of prison. He pretty much JUST got out of prison and came to work with the PAYDAY gang.
It'd be weird if he spoke zero Japanese.

I didn't realise the community could be this volatile over such a simple thing. Firstly, Jiro doesn't just speak in Japanese. I'll admit the vast majority of what he says is, though it would make sense story-wise as he is from Japan and as far as I can tell this would be his first time in America so why would he necessariy say all of these English phrases. Secondly, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I thought there was a large Japanese fanbase for the game. Perhaps no where near the size of the English speaking demographic but it is still present and so should be represented. I personally couldn't care less what language a character spoke as I don't find it vital to the gameplay, hence why after a while with each new character I turned the in-game sounds down and listened to my own music. In fact I welcome different languages as it would make a nice change to hearing the same old English all the time. I will happily be playing as Jiro and if you want to kick me for that then I wouldn't want to play with you in the first place.

Honestly, the ONLY thing about his language that disappoints me is that he answers pagers in Japanese. Sure, I know that the majority of pager responses are silly and wouldn't fool anyone, but at least the'yre understandable and (for the first time or two) humorous.

plan B is ok, as you don't really have to understand something besides words like dozer, taser ect.
but stealth is a huge mess, why didn't they make him just like Sokol and Dragan, who say some phrases in their language from time to time and swear in their respective language ?

My thinking for "stylistic subtitles" is to give each character his or her own font and text colour, maybe even a background colour. Could even be backed with some kind of simple graphic, like Chains could be just his mask with chains stretching on both sides. Or it could be a flat background with coloured text, why not?

Point is, I almost never hear what the bots are saying. My friend and I have a little Skype game we like to play called "What did he just say?" Chains has a voice line which sounds like he's barking, Jacket has a line which seems to say "host," Bonnie has a line which we eventually determined says "I dare you to pick it up" when throwing a grenade and so on. And hell, I'd love subtitles for the cops - I can almost never tell what the ♥♥♥♥ they're saying.

Having subttitles for NPCs is good. Having personalised subtitles so I can tell who's talking at a glance is even better. Best of all, it would help make both Jacket and Jiro easy to understand. Might also make a lot of Dragan's lines easier, too.
