Jiro only speaking Japenese is fine... Kinda.
Don't kick people for playing as Jiro.
At the same time, him speaking ONLY Japanese is a bit silly. Especially when you consider this is America.

Ladies and Gents I bring you actor and director Togo Igawa
Which you might also know him as the voice of the new Character Jiro

In this short clip you'll see and hear of might would have been Jiro's tone of voice (same from the trailer) and english dialog...

So as someone who has actually lived in Japan, I can give you some reasons as to why he doesn't speak any English to begin with:
We're playing in a game where i have enough money to pay some country national debt and still keep some spare change. Where we routinely murder the equivalent of a town's population of cops and security guards with RPGs, grenade launchers and miniguns.

Infusing logic in Payday is never going to work well.
You could also translate most of your language points to Russians, yet Sokol speaks English.

I get OVK tried to pull a Chewie with Jiro. But that mostly works on movies with characters with no relevant dialogue.

And we have already enough issues with the actual voicelines as to throw the idiomatic barrier into the mix.

I'm going into a slippery slope now, but imagine six months from now you are getting into a heist with:
-Jiro, the Japanese speaking heister.
-Ahmed, the arabian speaking thief.
-Cheng, the Chinese speaking Triad gangster.
And yourself playing Xavier, the Spanish robber.

There's a reason why on WWII movies we get German soldiers speaking English...or subtitles.

Uh i disagree completely. The crew won't know Japanese and so it makes no sense at all to have someone you genuinely can't understand as someone to rob banks with.

Crime.Net gets benefits from having a diverse team. Just like any other office. Alright?

On topic. The game is played by a widely english speaking audience. It's set in Washington DC, in America. With a team of heavily english speaking teammates (Sokol, Dragan and Wolf being exceptions, though they still speak predominantly in english).

I'm gonna treat this like that asian kid in American Dad.

Only this isn't really funny because there's no subs so the joke is lost on a large chunk of the audience.

To this day, I wonder how the bloody hell is that game on Steam, its the closest thing to porn on the entirety of steam.

Except for the porn games on steam

Seriously.

They don't have to re-record the lines, they could just add subtitles. Why is this such a huge issue? All you need is the Specs to be highlighted and you're fine. Why would anyone take this game so seriously? I like these games to be silly. I would play Jiro simply because it's silly.

Also, he sounds nothing like he did in the trailer.

Just wanted to point out that if you watch the ticker (stock values) in Big Bank there's a company called CloneACop or something like that

I believe that's due to HoxHud or some other mod. You get things Like Black Mesa on vanilla though.

He may not care about not speaking english most of the time, of course. But calling for his teammates, placing medkits, yelling on hostages and forcing cops to drop their weapons when speaking japanese is just stupid.

So as someone who has actually lived in Japan, I can give you some reasons as to why he doesn't speak any English to begin with:

1. As he was brought up with a gang most of his childhood, his education I imagine was scarce at best, and even being younger with his parents before I doubt he got little English learning even with his father (assuming his father was American and spoke English).

2. No matter how much you force Japanese people to learn English, trust me, they're not going to unless they're self determined to do so. Japanese people love holding onto traditions which includes speaking their language, and ♥♥♥♥♥ and complain as much as you want, if someone like Jiro isn't willing to learn English, well tough ♥♥♥♥ he isn't going to.

So you people who are complaining about him only speaking Japanese, get your egotistical sticks out of your asses and suck it up.

That seems pretty inconsistent to me. Maybe you're right, but that doesn't explain why he suddenly can talk english when he calls out the special units. Even if they have similar units in Japan in the Payday universe, Jiro shouldn't be able to know or speak their english names with your explanation.

he only speaks japanese? okay that's pretty stupid him saying stay down or something like that on japanese is fine but when it comes to marking enemies it would help if to know what he marked without looking at it. I'm sorry but i don't know the japanese word for bulldozer!

He says the English names of special units in a Japanese accent, it's not difficult to understand.

I haven't actually taken the time to sit there and look through all the refrences on that thing.
Really should do that.
