Why pd2stats.com had to close. [update]

Essentially the website was closed due to it lacking users and it taking resources we rather use for lastbullet.net. The reason for this are promises (involving the fbi files) made by Overkill that they broke repeatedly.

I am checking some ways to make pd2stats more useful so people would use it if it were to come back.

Well, I tended to use it directly via the Steam Overlay and thru links in HoxHud, etc. I hate alt-tabbing to Firefox or Opera mid-game.

The Steam browser can't block things like ads, right?

No it can't as far I can tell since it cannot load up plugins.

The email sent by Almir is almost literally a copy-paste of his reply on reddit. "We can't breathe life into http://www.pd2stats.com if noone wants to use it" is rather insulting when it's Overkill's fault that people stopped going there to begin with.

I don't know why he even bothered with the email. I find it even more hilarious that the team behind the FBI files (Supposedly) didn't even know about PD2stats' existence. Everything's so fishy.

Because we modded cheated unlocked all the useful functions to display in game.

Good Q. I loved that I could check whether a player had cheated before. I'm not sure FBI Files offers that functionality. When not in game, I liked that I can see a player's build / fav weapons / etc a lot more easier just by copying their profile link and inserting it into the first text field that appears as soon as I load up the site. With the FBI Files, it doesn't work that well and Steam browser (especially in Big Picture, which I use cuz I play on my TV) is slow and has this feature that it previews a page for you with the option of taking you to the web browser if you want to view it any further. When I decide to load up the web browser after the preview, FBI Files doesn't have the player's profile loaded into it and I have to manually insert the link. Steam Big Picture is pretty half-baked at times, so I won't fault Overkill for that. But nonetheless, it is an issue I experienced with FBI Files that I didn't with PD2 Stats.

Also, it was integrated into HoxHud, which probably helped its cause when there wasn't many updates. But with the breaking of LUA mods during Crimefest, I'm sure that hurt them even more.

Personally, I'd been using it a lot less than I had months ago, but mostly because I was either duoing with the same person, or playing with people I've already been with before/on my friends list, and know their builds.

At that point, once your're playing with people you know, it becomes a much less used "hey, can you check my build and tell me if I did something wrong" button. At least in my experience.

Not that I'm aware. I used it both in overlay and outside of the game and it always worked fine for the most part, despite it often having trouble connecting to steam.

i hate the FBI files,they are sluggish and slow, and they feel like a Need for speed Most wanted ripoff. full green screen databases are a thing of the past in northern countries.
