PAYDAY 2

Game Refuses to launch
I've tried so much, I originally brought this game in 2021/2022 or so but had the exact same issue so gave up and refunded it. Now 2 years later i'm starting to remember why I could never play. This is a brand new copy I brought a couple of days ago, i press "play" and it gives me a launch option, I click "Play Payday 2" and it will think about it for a moment and just stop. No error message, no big blaring issue. I had the exact same thing with COD Black Ops., I wanted to play the campaign after so long of never touching it and it refuses to launch.

I am at a loss of words, I've tried most of what here, reddit and other forums say about a similar issue.

Please any help is much appreciated

Do you have the Epic Games Launcher installed?

Would Epic cause Payday to malfunction in some sort of way?

Yes.
The game's code tries to call the Epic Games Launcher overlay (yes, even the Steam version does this), resulting in the game then shutting down again, OR if you own the game on Epic and have it installed there, it will automatically try to run the Epic version of the game.

I still find it hilarious that the answer to solving this issue is to uninstall Epic Launcher. They tested nothing.

Actually... there's four separate fixes.
1) Uninstall the Epic Launcher.
2) Move the Epic Launcher to a different HDD/SSD than the one Steam is installed on.
3) There's this fix on modworkshop : https://modworkshop.net/mod/47569 .
4) Use -steamMM in the launch options (since this effectively disables the EOS .dll file).
That last one obviously should be a last ditch solution, considering it switches you to a near empty network, but hey, DETAILS!

And yes, they failed to properly implement, AND failed to test for these issues.
There's a reason their new game is in such dire straits...

Thank you all for your help, I have come unsuccessful. Nothing is changing, Epic Launcher has been uninstalled, installed and uninstalled again, I have messed with the files and have found nothing. I am not very technical with PCs at all, So it could just be me being a melon

If you attempt to run the game's exe file from the game folder, in Admin mode, does it give you an error code? If other games are failing to run, I'm wondering if you're missing runtime dependencies on your computer.
Yeah, I get the Error code (0xc000007b).

Yeah, this means your computer is likely missing necessary windows runtime files, which will cause a lot of games not to work.

Try downloading and installing everything from here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/

See if that changes anything.
Man I was really hoping this was the fix unsure of if I did it right but I extracted all the files and ran the install thing, Waited for it to stop, restarted my laptop and still nothing.

You can also try this:

Additionally, If the issue still persists, try to copy-paste the system file MSVCR120.dll (32 bit version file) into your Payday 2 game folder, it could fix this issue too this way.

You can find MSVCR120.dll in the System32 folder on your computer. Make sure to copy-paste it, rather than just moving it.
