WHY ALL UPDATES TAKE SO LONG TO INSTALL: EXPLANATION
Okay, that's it. I had enough of people complaining about long update times, so I'm here to explain WHY and WHEN update system changed to current one and how it works (kinda).

Backstory: somewhere between updates 29 and 40 (can't remember exactly) Overkill implemented new update system that works up until this day and pisses all of you off because of how long it takes.

Why?: Before the new update system was implemented game downloaded bundles as a whole (just as if you installed multiple .pdmod files and checked file integrity right after) so the updates were huge to say the least. That's why Overkill sometime in the period I mentioned above implemented new update system that downloaded just the new files that have to be put inside bundles instead of whole already-modified bundles, just to make downloads smaller and save bandwidth/data caps of some users.

How does it work?: The files for bundles get downloaded. And this is when painful wait begins. Game backups ALL of game assets, that's why your HDD/SSD gets filled with over 20 more GB of data. Then the bundles get patched with new content (you could compare it to installing big mods via bundle modder, load on HDD is the same). The bundles get repacked. Backup gets removed if everything went right.

Of course, that system has its downsides, like big HDD/SSD usage and what comes with it - almost unresponsive computer for the time of the update itself.

So yeah, that's a quick explanation of how it works. I hope you appreciate that and stop asking this question.

That is one retarded way of updating. It takes forever and uses up so much ressources.
I now sit at my creaking machine to watch it slowly work through this ♥♥♥♥ for a mere fecking 28mb.

Instead I'll ask Overkill why they use such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ updating system using the one which didn't take so damn long. :B1:

Well, you know, if you can wait 6 minutes for a thermal drill and 30 minutes for OVERDRILL then you can surely wait 30 minutes for an update to complete :tdealwithit:

I think a lot of people understand the crap update system. Doesnt stop them wanting to come on and complain. It is a totally rubbish way of doing it.

Good to know why you have to wait few minutes of preallocating, few seconds of downloading and 13 minutes of installing for 35 MB updates :steamhappy:

But in this We can't slaughter senslessly to pass the time. All we can do is twiddle our thumbs while this archaic way of updating goes through it's paces.
Beautiful snide remark by the way.

What? That could easily be done in RAM instead of abusing the SSD/HDD. Why do we even bother to buy RAM if games aren't even going to use it?
