How to tell Epic to go F themselves and use Steam MM
Put this into your Launch command line on steam

-steamMM

EZ.

♥♥♥♥ epic and ♥♥♥♥ Overkill

More info coming from r/paydaytheheist Payday2 users:

- "If you want to play with friends with this, we found that joining through steam overlay or invites doesn't work properly. Instead, you can join through crime net and filter by friends only (if necessary)."

- "I suspect this command (and -epicMM for that matter) was kept in the executable as a debug command of sorts, so the developers could test how the API's interact with each other. As I understand it, invites don't work as the code for that has been changed internally, but finding friends rooms specifically does work."

How to Play -SteamMM with mods:
- "The way to get the (random) people to join you is either disable mods (completely, disabling the modloader), or just appearing as a non-modded lobby (via mods themselves). It'll allow you to keep your mods - but will allow your lobby to appear in the EOS matchmaking, because you'll be an "unmodded lobby". The choice is yours. I picked the latter, as w/o the QoL mods. The vanilla feels like an alpha."

- "-steamMM was good and i can confirm it's working, but heard me out!
If you are using a mod called "crime.net performance improvement" delete it now, it was the mod that block you from showing online lobby, after you delete it the lobby will come back as normal 😊"

One User Question:
- "Wait wait wait, someone explain this to me - how much is being run through Epic as is? I was under the impression some paperwork was signed and Payday 2 essentially swapped blood types here, and that all is now at risk of being shut down at Epic's whims like Unreal Tournament was. Steam servers like we've always had are just, available?"

Response:
- "Steam matchmaking was never removed; in part because the game still uses certain specific parts of the Steam API to identify players, which gets integrated and sent via EOS. That's the only part of Steam that was used anyway, the rest of it was P2P. This is why the game uses matchmaking keys, because without a dedicated server to check on the game version, you have no way of keeping people up to date.

Epic's servers (or rather, what EOS is told to connect to -- EOS can be told to connect to a third party server if needed) is only necessary for the sakes of cross-play as it has to do some shenanigans behind the scenes to get everyone to handshake and play nice with each other. Despite the belief, the games you play are not hosted on servers in the same way as it would be in, say, Overwatch. Steam and Epic only handle the "finding games" part, not the "playing the heist" part. There may also be a relay server, but I'm unsure on that.

Hell, EOS doesn't even need to be activated on startup of the game, it can quite literally be disabled until needed (I.E when browsing on Crime.net or on the social hub), which should give you an idea of how badly implemented this system really is.

I'm greatly simplifying here, but that's the crux of it."

It will be great if this work, unless the eos file is still require for launching....

it doesn't connect to eos at all, there's no connecting anymore when you're loading in the main menu

Crossplay (+ in-game currency) future also pretty much means the death of mods, which is another sad move.

what does it do ?
GHOST Jun 12, 2023 @ 4:41am
you now can see how overkill works, in the past, "no more paid dlc", now lot of dlc and pd3 s a service game with micro transaction, now using epic ♥♥♥♥, well sellout devs

Mods don't die if someone willing to pay, I mean you can pay modders to update mods or send them request to code certain things and pay them, money motivates people bro.

it tells the game to use steam matchmaking instead of epic. Why is this so complicated for you?

I should have clarified that I meant for Payday 3, which I only implied by mentioning the in-game currency which we know "in-app purchases" are part of PD3 and the batch of leaks that got us the release date early also revealed the in game currency being a thing they have planned.

As for PD2 though it's rough to flip the table and screw everyone over right before they close the game down as the mod scene is likely not going to be at its peak before retirement and after that. Paying modders is a big can of worms and easier said than done. Some might not do it for any money as it's their hobby and they have a job. Some might not do it unless unlikely sums of money would appear. It often poisons the well when you introduce money to modding.

Ah yes the so called "Ultimate Edition" because it was the "Definitive last Edition fr fr no cap" "We promise no more DLCs after this one" "trust me bro"... time later here we are, went from 35 DLCs aprox in the Ultimate Edition to 90 DLCs in 2023.

"Trust me bro no loot boxes" "Trust me bro, there will no be keys to open safes sold as micro transactions", "trust me bro, no weapon-skins boosting stats", "trust me bro no third party software or any additions added within this 237 update"...

The historic compilation of lies coming from this studio goes far and wide.
