The damage shown i the stats is the damage applied when one pellet hits, when multiple ones hit you don't do any more damage. You always want to have your accuracy low, as you want to hit as many enemies as possible with one shot. On higher distances the damage is lower, stating at 10m range, and no damage at 20m and more. Flechette increases the max range up to 30m i think. But even then, you dan't want more than 40 accuracy, as hitting multiple pellets on the same target doesn't increase the damage.
Slugs have only one "pellet". They can pierce shields, and are crap in every other way. They still have damage dropoff, but a bit less than normal, though more than flechette.
The Flechette is only good in certain situtions when you need the range but only have the Shotgun skills, tbh a HE round is better at this job as the only use the ammo is useful for is taking out snipers. A HE round can do the distance and still be useful for other things.
It would be nice if the Flechette ammo could do extra damage against certain types of armour, which would make it more viable or add a 'bleed' effect, I do not see anyone using it apart from getting the achivement.
With AP, you want your accuracy as high as possible.
With flachette, you want your accuracy pretty high, but not as high as possible. The point of it is to hit targets at distance. Flachette rounds actually go suprisingly far. But still have at least some capability of hitting more than one target with one shot.
I would pick flachette over AP rounds any day. If you're in beta, heavy impact will take care of shields, and the flachette spreads is FAR more forgiving than AP. I love my flachette Raven. I use it all the time.
Flechette is fine as it is with double barrels and The Judge, but slug is absolutely horrible until it gets a buff, and I guess we can expect one in relatively short time.
Like the others said, Flechettes 'behave' like regular ammo but with a range and accuracy bonus. Currently, they come with a pickup-penalty (like all of the alternative ammo types) but that looks like it's getting removed in the beta.
