Solo Play possible?
While im fully aware that this is a multiplayer focused game im still here asking the veterans of this game if soloing this game on an easier difficulty is still worth buying the new dlcs while they are reduced?
and is there a sort of story mode? I mean i know there is this heist where you break out on of the vanilla crew member (hoxton or whatever his name was?) so if you play the heists in a specific order it tells somewhat of a story?

To be honest i just wanna play around with the new weapons and have some fun while blasting through the new heists, dont really want that hardcore challenge mode or anything.

Is solo play possible? Yes, ive gotten most of my achievements on solo play, I am almost got near done with "kiss the chef" solo no AI. Its possible but I would recommened pistol messiah or playing with team AI as they are really only useful for getting you up IF you go down. TBH I think solo play is easier than playing multiplayer.

As for story ill let someone else answer because im lost at this point.

Stealth is quite easy -maybe even easier, since you are free of death by desync-. The only downside is having fewer assets and the rare chance when two guards see you and you are screwed.

Loud is entirelly possible solo, but the highest difficulty might be a bit challenging due to cloakers (enemies that down you with one hit) and the idiotic bots who will get in your way and fail to revive you.

As for a story, there was one, then they introduced a million random characters that make no sense, and heists where you rescue goats, so take it with a truck of salt.
It's possible. But it's completely missing the point of the game. You'll also have a tough time carrying all those bags solo, asa bots do not shift bags.

There is no story mode.

If you are absoloutely determined to play solo, you'll probably want to get your hands on the Better Bots mod and one that allows you to carry multiple bags. You can find them both here:

I don't follow the connection on this part. Can you explain?

And the series of heists that explicitly tells the story is the hoxton breakout saga by the dentist; some of the heists of the saga are DLC (ie hotline miami and the big bank. The golden grin and the diamond also counts, but that's after hoxton breaks out)

You can play solo, it's just much harder, especially on heists with a lot of bags. Generally, if you're good at the game, solo Overkill should be a breeze for you.

I'd say that the heist DLC are generally worth it on sale. Look up reviews of the weapon and character packs to see if you want them.

There's no direct story mode, but if you go to the FBI Files (there's a link in the main menu), the order of the Heist Directory is the approximate timeline of all the heists, and there are several heists that form their own mini-storylines (Big Bank, Hotline Miami, Hoxton Breakout, The Diamond, Hoxton Revenge, Golden Grin Casino for example). This is not a heavily story-focused game, but every heist (with the exception of Lab Rats) has a canonical reason for existing.

So basically if you are pretty alright at playing shooters and on easy / normal difficulty you can just play around with the weapons and tackle all the heist without a problem? with AI on i guess at first

Dont really care about the story part, just rad on some review someone made some character story summary and it sounded like that there is actually somewhat of a story but i guess its rather small and not noticeable during regular play sessions.

But alright i guess ill buy the dlcs and play around with a game for a while maybe i get back into it like i was hooked by it when it first came out

Yeah, anything but the hardest difficulty can be done solo with whatever random build you want without a worry. It's only the hardest difficulty where a good team will actually make a difference. Still possible, but will take you a bit to be able to do that.

Yeah, you can almost play it with one of your hands tied to the back on normal no problem. But the fun of this game is really on DW difficulty imo, just saying.

I know but the team i used to play with gave up on this game and so did i, but maybe the new content will get me back into it, might even try to tackle that DW once again.

Thanks everyone, i will definitely give this game another shot

I'd argue that Solo is doable, but you'll want to download a few mods to make it actually enjoyable - specifically Better Bots and Keepers at the very least. If you're not willing to deal with mods, then you might not enjoy solo very much. Well, aside from stealth - solo stealth works just fine and is usually the preferred way to stealth in the first place.

There is no story mode or any campaign. There's a "story" of sorts, but it's told Titanfall-style through settings and flavour dialogue. I wouldn't buy Payday 2 for the story, personally.

Well the real definition of solo is playing alone with no human or AI teammate. Just saying :/

No, it isn't. "Soloing" is an old MMO term referring to playing without other players. It's pretty clear from the OP that that's what the person is asking about.

Its true, my original intention was to ask if you can play it without any bots or something because they would probably rather annoy me instead of being actually usefull other then picking you up when you are downed.

And ill definetly look into mods, someone already mentioned a mod with bags and the better bots.
Plus i might got an old m8 who would join me so that makes 2 players and 2 bots.

If we both use the same mods we can still play together right?
Or are mods strictly for solo play?
