Terminology? (Solved)
I have been playing PD2 for a while now.
During my hours on this game (and on these forums), I have noticed that people use terms like "Build," "running," and occasionally, "proc."
I do know what they mean.

But, where do these terms come from? I don't see those kind of words anywhere in the game other than from the players, both in text chat and mic.

Did they come from a different game? Or are they just general terms in gaming that I have never heard about for some reason?

Edit: Just so we're clear, I use the terms, "skillset" & "Using," instead of "build" & "running," respectively.

UPDATE: They're general gaming terms?
That is kind of weird that this is the only game I play that have the players using those words. But then again, I don't play a lot of MMO g@mes (don't know why they censored that).
I have played TF2, which is a game that would use those terms, but don't.

Anyways, thanks for the relatively quick replies. Consider this question thread solved!

Build is a common word used for pretty much any game that allows you to customise loadouts.
It basicly means what the loadout is like as a whole, say a sniper build would be a build based on long range snipeing and taking down specials, proc means activating, when 65% chance to proc a crit really means 65% chance to get a critical hit.
Running means what build you are currently using, also means sprinting.
These words are in many diffrient games, you are just playing the wrong ones, builds are heavily used in MMO games like WoW and other things and running is a general word used by people who use English although not very common.

General Terms in Gaming.

Every game has their own terminology, they come to exist because we're too lazy to type out the entire thing. Some games share the same terminology, in case of MMO's for example. They all more or less have about the same terminologies.

The stuff in payday 2 tends to be well...mostly exclusive to payday.

Though ones like "Build" in the example you gave are used in a lot of games besides payday. Surprising you haven't ran into it until now.

Both running and proc and a lot more are general terms, but there's some few unique ones.

A build is your skill-tree set-up. Nothing more, nothing less. Never heard of 'proc'.

"proc" is used a lot in games like LOL.

i also use it because its the best word to decribe skills like trigger happy ACE and bloodthirst ACE.

the best deffinition i can give is.
to "proc" is to activate an ability using another ability or specific action.

E.G.
"i need to proc Bloodthirst ACE to get 50% faster reload speed by getting a melee kill"
this would normaly be shortened to something more like
"i need to proc bloodthirst"
