Body expertise and the flamethrower
So, the description for body expertise says any weapon fired in full auto, that includes the special cat. Does this include the flamethrower?

Flamethrower cannot score headshots to my knowledge.

Even if it did, it's a terrible weapon.

No, just weapons that do bullet damage (which also includes non-HE arrows).

Guns that you cant pick up ammo for are generally in the do not use on serious difficulties. The exception is the RL as it can work fine for things like winters.

You can pick up flamethrower ammo. Ammopickup is terrible tho.
Also got a lot of kills (27k) with flamethrower, and I play mostly DW.

I would actually go so far as to say it's one of the most useful guns in the game! Sure, if you're only using it to try to kill things you're going to have a bad time but, in that case, I would argue that you're using it in a way it was never meant to be used in the first place.

It's a crowd control weapon (and a damn good one) and should really only be used as such. If you're playing a DW heist and 2 dozen cops/specials decide to all rush at once (and they WILL all rush in at once) a few clicks of the flamethrower and they'll all be writhing on the floor in agony for several seconds. More than enough time for you and your crew to take them out by other, more efficient means (you get two guns for a reason...) while they can't do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to you. It can and will, when used properly and sparingly, save your ass more times than you'll be able to count.

Although, obviously, it's significantly less useful on huge, open maps like Bomb: Forest but that level's a ♥♥♥♥ hole any way you slice it. Most heists take place in pretty close quarters at least for part of it. Just watch out for civvies...

the flamethrower lacks several things that normal guns take for granted.
headhsots, range and sustainability.

it also has a very slow reload and barely gains ammo from drops.
it can stun lock enemys and burn though shields and tans.

it also has a big mag and a very high ROF but that is offset by the long reload and how little damage it deals per shot.

despite the fact that it cant get headhsots, its DPS is nothing to scream about.
it has a high ROF but deals such little damage per shot.
the resultant DPS is simmalar to that of a standard AR.
exept it cant make use of headhsots to greatly increase it, unlike your standard AR.

like in real life in WW2, you want one on your side but you dont actualy want to be the guy holding it.

The flame thrower is amazing in the right hands , and even better with the right builds!
first of all, the flame thrower excells at stunlocking specials, and killing shields. Its also very VERY good at killing normal cops, but i use it sparingly in that case.

If you run grinder or anarchist that rely on you to hit often its a GODSEND. a single tap of the trigger will start 4 stacks of grinder going off at once, more if you get more people in the spew

the range is missleading, and you have much more distance then your particle effects show. You do pick up ammo for it, but i use the STRYK pistol as my main kill everything weapon. and i pull out the flame thrower when i want to be dangerous, and it lets me do things that i have no right surviving.

another trick is to 'feather' it or just tap it repeatedly, as there is a pause normally after the first damage is registered, but it reapplies the first hit every time you click, and is MUCH more ammo efficent.

" You do pick up ammo for it"
but it is so patheticly low considering how high the ROF is and how little damage it deals per shot that you may as well just assume it dosent and use it accordingly.

its effective against shields but its only good for dozers if one of your team comes and finnishes it off.
it will also burn (literaly) a lot of ammo whilst doing so.

you may find it fast at killing guys if you dont normaly go for headhsots.
but if you do it is no faster than aiming at head level and dragging across with any old auto weapon.

Not sure what a flamethrower can do that a decent LMG can't do either sufficiently well or better.

It can take an entire room full of enemies out of a fight rendering them completely unable to damage your crew for a decent amount of time for a relatively small amount of ammo. An LMG can't kill a room full of cops anywhere near as quickly as a flamethrower can send them all rolling around on the floor.

It's a defensive weapon.

Can't say I'm commonly in situations where I need to clear a room faster than I can do it with an LMG which, as I said, does it sufficiently well as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather prioritize the ability to get all my ammo back afterwards as well as be able to hit targets more than 10m away which the flamethrower can't.

Shoot through shields, stun all specials (including Cloakers mid-charge), and satisfy my secret pyromaniac tendencies.

you will not blow thrugh your ammo if you use the weapon like a special weapon, because it is, its a neiche weapon, and you use it when nessesary. i NEVER run out of ammo unless i am tased out side of retaliation range.

and you do not need anyone to hold your hand to finish off dozers, you tap fire like 6 times and it peels off the face plate/stuns them, then you pull out your secondary and finish him off.

i go for head shots with my secondary weapon.
