Looks like someone has no idea what they're talking about.
Slap a shield on it, place one down in a crowded area say the sewers in Birth of sky, turn a failure into a victory almost instantly.
They have much faster rof, no reloading, indestructable from the front and can be placed down in pairs of two with eco sentry, shoot through shields and can never be 100% "Disabled."
The ammo thing is the only thing balancing them, other then that use the ammo bag a few times have six sentries shooting every cop before they can do anything.
Also, sentries are rediculously good, you just don't know how to use them.
They will outkill your most skilled killing machine player every time.
That being said, you need ammo. Bring ammo-efficient weapons (grenade launchers, shotguns) and have someone bring you an ammo bag. Pretty good trade-off for 6 automatic guns of destruction.
Good job, people.
Of course sentries require ammo to place: they shoot things. They're literally a gun in a case and need bullets just like the other guns. :D
With the amount of killing wreckage they do, the pickups from its dead will fill your ammo right back up. Sentries are actually pretty OP. Buy an ammo asset when they're available (and not spawing on the moon) or bring some with JoaT if you really need to and you can lock down the whole map. Run them with Gambler and you'll have even less trouble.
I used only 2 on Hox Breakout and for day 2 they racked up over 300 kills. I had to pick them up to reload them a few times but THREE HUNDRED KILLS FROM A ROBOT, PEOPLE.
It takes a little practice if you hadn't used the old ones (which weren't all that great so most people didn't - myself included). A couple Mallcrasher runs might do some good to try some different strats to get it down. That one has an ammo asset so it's a help and a number of good places to set them up and watch them murderate everything. I messed around with them solo a few times before taking them to Rats to block the house off from any cop. My team mates might have been a little frustrated with me from boredom
