I'm not talking about swing time, I'm talking about running and being able to charge your melee strike. Or running and making a basic melee attack. I can do this with a minigun or rocket launcher, why the hell can't I do it with a Butterfly knife or even my fists?
It would make melee a hell of a lot more usable and sastisfying, and enable a higher skill ceiling on something that's not bad but very niche.
I feel like this was an oversight, rather than a decision.
EDIT:
I should also note that you can make some pretty interesting and usable melee builds right now, I'm not saying you can't do that. I'm just saying being able to unleash a charged attack after sprinting in would make it a lot more usable than it is. High risk should normally equal high reward, and that isn't the case now.
I get that it's a shooting game, but melee has it's own tree now. This should have been the aced version of Bloodthrist in my opinion, or the second tier of Berzerker. Instead it wasn't included at all for reasons I don't understand.
That's not to say OVK can't add anything to the base game to improve melee, but this mod will keep you happy until then.
This is just something that should have been included, and I felt it needed at least a litle attention since I haven't seen a thread on this yet.
They finally stopped adding 4 in the DLCs.
They should only worry about melee again, if they can add an interesting mechanic to the system. Like the Buzzer/Kunai did with taze/poison.
I would love seeing a sword that is on fire, that deals fire damage.
Otherwise don't waste more time on the second rate melee system.
Yep. Instead of trying to fix the second rate melee system, just don't bother. 100%
!?!
We are Bank robbers for crying out loud, some builds or ideas are just more fitting and better.
You got a whole Melee tree, what else do you want?
Not sure why they wouldn't spend the five minutes it would probably take to apply Lock n' Load to melee, like it applies to every other weapon in the game, but ok.
As if sprinting while firing a minigun makes any more sense. Or better yet, reloading a minigun while running. Now that's a feat.
If melee is supposed to be, in your words, 'second rate' then perhaps they shouldn't have given melee it's own entire skill tree. Or perk deck. I'd be more inclined to agree with you if not for that, but obviously not every tree will be equal. Melee should always be more limited, but those limitations should be something you can mitigate with skill.
You can easily one-shot green dozers with melee right now, and it's more difficult to pull off than it would be to wipe your cursor all over them with a SMG or Vulcan, but I'd like to be able to quickly move in and dispatch high priority targets rather than rush in with deaggro skills, hope they don't target me while charging, and then cut off the dozers head.
This one thing would put melee on a more even footing, and don't forget that there are tons of melee weapons. Why not make them something useful on every difficulty while changes are being made? As if they aren't going to balance pass the skills they just put in the game. I guarantee you they will. Hopefully this in included.
EDIT:
Maybe people haven't tried melee since the skills update, but you probably should. It's very effective now, and fairly satisifying for something different that still wrecks. It just need some tweaking to make it more usable since everyone can rush around with everything now, except melee.
I mean, I know these people are trying to have fun and improve a clear flaw in the design, but seriously, we're bank robbers and don't need anything but a bow with explosive arrows in order to deal with the ninja-cops while regenerating full hp because there happened to be a cake nearby when we died.
Keep it real, noobs. GTFO with your non-fitting sci-fi "meleeing while running" nonsense. We're pros here.
