Technically there was supposed to be an Animated Series, all the footage in that April fools trailer was footage that was made for it.

Long story short, the animator is known for putting an insane amount of effort into his work and it never got made. If anything this is the best kind of news to hear, since OVK are clearly happy to make April fools jokes into real things and seeing the extremely positive reception to it they might arrange one for Payday 3 for marketing - as an alternative to the god-awful Web Series.

Personally I really liked the web series and all the live action they have done. A straight up Netflix series or a movie I would be so down for.
