Issues joining/hosting a heist with Private Steam accounts
Hello heisters!

With the recent changes to Steam's Privacy Policy, we've seen some issues with hosting and joining lobbies for users who have their accounts set to the new default - 'Private'.
The issue is easily remedied by setting your account as either 'Public' or 'Friends-Only' here.

We've reached out to Valve and we're looking at possible fixes on our end. As this is a Steam setting however, we're unsure if a solution from our end will be possible.

We'll update this thread if we learn anything new.

Guys do not forget to set game details to public/friends only as well.

You may want to add a message when loading payday 2, at least for the next few updates. So people can know to change their privacy settings.

Why is a privacy setting for a Steam profile affecting the joining and hosting in PD2?

Because some popular mods check joining players profiles, which can be kicked depending on various factors.

That means a profile with friends only is working like a public profile for mods?

Lmao, no. What he meant to say is: Some mods installed by the host check on the peers profile for information regarding "hours played" or stuff like that. If it's private, it cannot check for hours, and most of the hosts set the thing to auto-kick private profiles because we cant be sure how experienced someone can be.

Then there isn't any problem with the game or Steam. It's just the same old problem that is existing since this kind of mods are used, right?
yes and no, same problem just way bigger since all profiles are private since the steamupdate and hide games/achivements are a new option. so you need to opout of the privacy settings to get no kick or the hoster who whant to check whith who they play need to stop this or just play with known people.
since the 2. option most like wont happen (to much work to check players by playstyle ingame) people without friends and changed profilesettings need to stick now to newbys and cheaters and have to get lucky to find a good crew which has 1 free spot and dosnt use ngbto.

depends on what the reason is.
if the reason is ngbto mod from host than make profile public and and dont join heists that are to hard for youre skill lvl.
if its a game bug no idea, but there are several treats about this problem. use search bar.
