Is crime.net real?

Beacause every time you type crime.net it leaves a link to a website so can somebody explain?

The website crime.net does not exist in real life. Crime.net is just a website created within the Payday 2 game. Everyone can make their own website using a custom address. That address is probably taken but the site itself does not exist or is down. It has no ties to the Payday 2's Crime.net service.

crime.net is the name for the payday 2 server menu

steam automatically links it to a website because it ends in .net and steam assumes someone is trying to talk about a website,
you can find it by clicking the first button from the top in the payday 2 main menu

Yes it is, but you need to be a 1337 hacker to access the actual criminal network otherwise doesn't work.

I think it used to be a promotional website at one point but now it’s just junk. I wouldn’t go there because I cannot possiblely tell you if it’s safe or not.

I recall the URL always being crimenet.info, never actually "crime.net". You can hop on the Wayback Machine to get a glimpse of what it used to look like. You can't get very far though, since you can't get past the age verification gate. It's just an old game homepage, one that quickly became obsolete in favor of other platforms. As for "crime.net", nothing substantial has ever come of that URL.

As of about 2019, crimenet.info now just gives you a direct link to PAYDAY's steam store page.
