That is only for monetary reasons. CS:GO inventory used to be infinite before they added the storage crates.

if it's the 64 bit integer limit, or 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, that's $276,701,161,105,643,260. Or rather, a lot.
Basically the only way to hit the limit would to be a game dev and give yourself tons of items, and probably get banned from using the inventory system in the process.
I think beyond a certain amount (maybe 10,000), steam "stacks" identical items. I have a few of those in my inventory (safes from way back when)
