Do you lose weapons/mods if you unequip them?
Title. I bought and equipped an extended magazine for one of my pistols, then I unequipped it to see what it looked like without it only to find out I had to pay for it again when I wanted to equip the same magazine. Is this true for all weapons/mods?

Why did they make it like this? Is there any way to play so that I don't have to pay for the weapons every single time?

left overs from the way the game originally was, back then skills also required you to pay for them, as far as i can tell the intent of that was so that players would gravitate towards a certain playstyle and build, getting attatched to it and playing with other people with different builds to compliment each other, but since then the team composition aspect has sorta gone out the window so that does pretty much nothing nowadays, tho being honest, with how much money you get by playing and with how little ways you have of spending it, after a couple of successful heists you will have enough money to buy whatever you want and only moment you would need to get more is when going infamous but even that doesn't cost money after the fifth time

How does infamy work?

Almost literally like Prestige from the COD games. When you reach level 100, you can opt to gain one level of Infamy; doing this resets your level back to 1, but you gain additional permanent EXP modifiers (stacking up to about 200% at Infamy Level 25) and a specific reward for each Infamy level, ranging from masks, outfits, gun colors, and others.

Your very first level of Infamy also decreases the amount of skill points required to unlock the tier four skill for all trees (IIRC, from sixteen or eighteen down to fourteen), allowing you to access the tier four skills with less investment in other skills you wouldn't necessarily use.

There are up to 500 Infamy levels, but there are only rewards up to Infamy 100 (and, as mentioned, EXP increases only go up to Infamy 25). Strictly speaking, you don't really need to Infamy at all if you don't want to, and you can stop whenever you want. Nothing beyond Infamy 1 changes gameplay, nothing beyond Infamy 25 gives you extra EXP, and nothing beyond 100 has rewards (as of yet, at least).

After you get to level 100 you can go infamous, meaning all your skills get reset and you start at level 0 again. Every level of infamy gives you some unique item like masks/patterns/weapon skins/join sounds plus some extra bonus xp after every heist, for example at infamy 25 you get a +205% bonus. Most importantly the first infamy reward is a 10% skill point requirement reduction, lowering the required skill points spent to unlock the top skill of every tree from 18 to 16 so this can be very useful for future builds. Note that the first 5 levels will cost you 200 million from your offshore account and they will burn all your spending cash each time. From infamy 6 and up going infamous is free. You keep your weapons and mods you've bought but they get locked to a level so for example you can't use the judge until you're level 35 again.

To give you an idea how the grind goes, you need 23.336.413 total XP to get from level 0 to 100. You need 11.461.170 total XP (about half) to get from level 0 to 80. I can get from 0 to 50 in only a couple of heists and after that I just play the game until I get to 100. Some heists are better to farm than others and holdout mode gives a sh!t-ton of xp if you can survive all the waves, with a +25% stealth bonus (from framing frame only) I get about 6mil xp in 30 minutes.

Back then players also only could have 1 set up. There were no set up or skillset tabs. 1 was all you got so you had to coordinate with your team to succeed.

The game was also MUCH harder back then.

@Sauro and @HazoVigi thank you for the very in depth explanations as to how infamy works. @HazoVigi, you said that when I go infamous all my skills reset, do I get refunded the points that I invested or do I lose them so I can't even get more skills in the future?

Is the Ukrainian job DLC? If not, where do I find it, under the contracts tab?

you get sent back to level 0 and have 0 skill points, having to earn them again by levelling up

it's dlc and it's located under the jiu feng contractor tab
HazoVigi Oct 3, 2021 @ 5:14pm
No you go back to 0 skill points but your saved profiles become locked until you get the same amount of points to use them again. Except the first one, profile 1 always gets reset so you'll have a profile to play. You can of course reset any of the locked profiles at any time to build them up again from scratch. You can get at most 120 points at level 100.

I think he meant Vlad's Ukrainian Job, not Jiu Feng's Ukrainian Prisoner Job. It's basically a really easy and short heist you can literally do it in under a minute.
