armor choosing?
I usually playing on OVK-MH difficulty, sometime DW
I am thinking about play on DS recently, so I was searching recommend build
but I saw some build using ballistic vest instead suit/CTV/ICTV

I know there are some perk work better with ballistic vest
like grinder with LBV, crook with HBV
but I don't understand why I saw some build using ballistic vest with some perk like kingpin or stoic
is that because of mobility?

before I saw those build, I just think like this ↓
suit = for dodge, or quick regenerate armor with anarchist
CTV = for most armor if you don't have enough points for ICTV
ICTV = for most armor, the best if you are not using dodge build or some special perk
other = for some special perk, still the more armor the better

and now I am confusing how to choose the best armor and when to pick ballistic vest

For stoic with LBV. The answer is simple. Crits.

always flak vest
lbv is usually used to have "2 shot" armor but only when light unit hits you first since they do less than 70 dmg which is armor you get from lbv + die hard aced
its mostly used on health decks (kingpin, muscle, grinder, ...)

I know some build will increase concealment to make dodge or crit work
but some build don't even use those skill and keep detection risk on 75
still thanks for reply

In that case it is mostly for mobility. Even with LBV, stoic provides enough protection. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if people even use the suit with that deck.

so it's because your armor will break in 2 shots in most situation on DS with most armor, and choose ballistic vest will have more mobility?

but I still confusing why choose ballistic vest for stoic
all armor will transfer as health, that means the more armor = the more health
and no armor means it can't stop huge damage by armor

The breakpoint logic goes out the window with Stoic, and instead the LBV is used for Stoic because it lets you have significantly more health than otherwise while sacrificing minimal mobility

Also, it provides some benefits that aren't exclusive to Stoic. It lets you achieve detection risks as low as if you were using the suit if you ace Inner Pockets, meaning you can make use of Low Blow with little issue. Ballistic vests in general also have the benefit of being easy to reach compared to the ICTV; they're valuable if your choice of weapons and perk deck means you're forced to waste a ton of skill points just to get to the ICTV (e.g. you use a sniper rifle or other shield-piercing weapon and therefore don't directly benefit from acing Shock & Awe). If you don't use crits, you might want to consider one of the other ballistic vests instead of just the LBV if the ICTV somehow looks like a suboptimal choice for you

socio ictv with proper damage res skills gives u 3 hits to armor break on DS, just keep up your headshots to maintain shield or regen when you need to take a hit, it does super well for everything below that just walk and click heads (i do it with an lmg)

i dont know if this helps at all i just kinda threw my two cents in

Sociopath is an Armor gating deck like Anarchist, But it leans towards being more tanky than the constant Armor gating you have to deal to survive. But for that tankiness, you don't have the 2s invincibility Anarchist has and all Armor gating has to be done by confirmed kills, not on hit for Anarchist.

Sociopath can build for tanking 3 zeal hits (225 damage) on DS. But you would need Frenzy Aced + ICTV + Underdog Aced (Quick Fix can replace Underdog Aced but it's not recommended for using Faks on a Frenzy build but the 10% Damage Reduction is consistent for 2 minutes)

But you would need to put up with the fact you could accidentally heal yourself with it's melee potential to 40% zerk if your looking your the extra Damage from Berserker.

But you can build Sociopath with only ICTV and you already have 2 Hits because of it's 10% Armor increase and could also pair it with Converts. By that same idea, How people have said about having 70 Armor to tank 2 hits from light units. Sociopath can hit 72 Armor with BV alone rather than using HBV or LBV needing Die Hard Aced.

Also if your gonna buy it, you need to own the HM2 game and the Digital Special as well.

When choosing armor, there are two numbers you need to remember. A light swat on DS does around 60 damage, the same as the BV. A heavy swat does 225 damage, just slightly more than the ICTV (including iron man basic), meaning you want other armor boosts and resistances to assist it. Generally you want to run ICTV with armor perk decks, 2PS for dodge decks, and LBV with Die Hard aced (or HBV if you can't afford DH) for everything else. Of course, there are exceptions, and specific situations where choosing different armor is acceptable:

  • Crew Chief's armor boost is just enough to get 2-shot armor with the ICTV. The stamina boost can also make the ICTV a bit faster, but also works well with the LBV to make you even more mobile.
  • Armorer and Sociopath, when combined with Iron Man basic and Frenzy aced, can reach 2-shot armor with the CTV. You're spending more points for less effect, though, so you should only use it with Low Blow aced and really high concealment weapons.
  • Crook's armor boost to ballistic vests eliminates the need for DH when used with the LBV. More interestingly, however, you can use DH aced, Iron Man basic, and Frenzy aced with the HBV to reach 2-shot setup, while still having quite a bit of concealment for Low Blow.
  • Sociopath works well with just about any armor except the suit. Its armor gating and a little bit of health regen give it enough survival with the ballistic vests, and it can have a 2-shot ICTV without Frenzy.
  • Maniac's damage absorption can technically give it a 2-shot ICTV without other skills, but since the damage absorption fluctuates, you'd likely need a backup option to reach 2-shot range, such as Quick Fix aced, Underdog aced, or Frenzy.
  • Yakuza should always be used with the ICTV. Without it, you'll be incredibly fragile.
  • Always run the suit with Anarchist. It give you the fastest armor regen, for better armor gating.
  • Since Sicario's dodge increases when you get hit, and its armor recovers when you dodge, you could technically get a 5-shot ICTV with damage reduction skills if you're lucky. The suit is a far safer choice, however.
