In Hell's Island, after Bain escapes, he kills dozen of murkies offscreen, including Kento where he collapses.
Edit:also that virus he was poisoned with, according to the lore its the same stuff from Valve's Left 4 Dead so...
Also no, Kento did not know his father was alive, it was the other way around Jiro knew Kento was alive but did not know where he was exactly, is on his trailer, Jesus.

Also if you want to rant save it for your friends only, as is against the rules of the forum my guy, the addition of Kento and how that history arc ended was poorly executed yes, but there's no reason to rant about other completely unrelated things.
Probably figured adding it to the secret ending playing a more important role and such but due lack of funds and everything ending way too abruptly around that time never got a proper fleshed out ending and they had to do with what they had.
So Bain couldn't spare Kento as Kento has express orders to kill him and is a high ranking Murkeywater officer. Kento was likely a vicious killing machine due to his isolation (no parents) Therefore he likely enjoys his job, earnt his rank through blood, In Henry's Rock you can see him eyeing up the Payday gang, I was hoping for more of a boss fight against Kento but death by Bain and Locke rolling in is cool too I guess
Another important thing to keep in mind about this games story. They kept adding new stuff to it, created lots of loose ends and at the point of wanting to wrap it up they realised what a mess everything was, so they hired a writer to come in and stitch it all together in a conclusion. In a way this felt like the natural way for the story to go, as all throughout the game you steal rare items but you as the thief and not the fence, don't really think about what happens, just "Bain will deal with it" so of course it makes sense Bain is actually planning something much much bigger, like some next level crazy cultist magic stuff.. But of course there was still other loose ends to be addressed in limited time.
Such as The Dentist, so they made them into even more shady than before where he had Dallas at knifepoint, literally only freeing Hoxton so Dallas and the crew think he's a cool guy, as after running two jobs for him, he gets your friend back, and even lets them get their revenge before you carry on your work with him. It puts the crew at ease so he can monitor them more easily.
Then of course there is the elephant in the room Kento, although it seems random for him to crop up where he did, I honestly don't think I could do anything better at that stage of the game. To make a set of missions to locate Kento wouldn't be make much sense as there are very few things you can rob to locate a specific person. So I know that Heat Street and Green Bridge involve escorting out people with information on Kento, then it follows with Alaskan Deal which as we all know is the beginning of the end. But what if the info just led to Kento being a Gangster/Organised crime, It wouldn't be that interesting, it'd feel like we already had something similar with biker gangs and rust.
But this is where I realised that the Kento thing makes sense Let's assume The Dentist is keeping tabs on the Payday gangs activities, none of the robberies make him react until he hears of them blowing up a bridge to disrupt a prison transport where the person they freed and spent there efforts escorting to the construction site to helicopter out, has information on one of your highest ranking officers that you directly interact with. At this point the Dentist knew it wouldn't be long before Bain and the Payday gang would meet him again, one way or another, so he decides to strike first, first aiming to take out the Payday gang by getting them arrested. However as we know Bain and Locke have a plan and thus rolls Alaskan deal.
The deal was a massive success and the Payday gang did evade capture in DC. However the Dentist decides to take a different approach and strike whilst the iron is hot, and as Bain and Locke are keeping the crew in the dark then he needs to cut off the head and the body will die, so that why Res Dogs goes how it does, It was part of The Dentists plan to locate Bain. They capture him as to try leaving the crew completely in the dark, however he manages to tell the crew to trust Locke, and thus Locke takes you through the rest of the story. The Dentist feels much safer after capturing Bain as he was one of the few that knows about the ancient body switching technique, however Locke is immediately on the case sending you to Henrys Rock, Brooklyn Bank, The FBI Office and An auction house to quickly gather up the boxes, keys and content. And wastes no time carrrying on Bains work.
So since The Dentist can't stop you it was only inevitable for you to eventually meet the high ranking Murkey Officer Kento, as by the looks of it he has higher level clearance at Henry Rock so he must be extremely high rank. The Dentist genuinely thought Kento would have no trouble killing Bain but Bain is super OP even when he only uses 10% of his power.
The third alternative is he is mentioned in the "where are the now" cutscene when they talk about Jiro after you complete the secret ending, this would have been the biggest cop out and I'm glad they didn't do it.
TL;DR: You can say there is no story behind Kento at all, but Kento is an important character although they couldn't do much with him, It was because they wanted to find Kento that The Dentist intervened when he did, thus the story would have been much different if Kento wasn't a murkey top dog that had knowledge of The Dentists
I enjoyed reading that
