PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2

Is no one gonna talk about the stupidity of Payday 2 now collecting Telemetry data
I'm sure everyone noticed the Privacy Policy pop-up when opening the game since the update. Basically by agreeing to it you let Overkill collect shady stuff such as player's IP address or data of the location.
It also collects data that's more sensible, such as stats in the game, player's progression, etc. However there is one thing I wonder, if they were collecting data to help with game's development, why not just use whatever was used to collect data with FBI Files? Or even what was used to collect data during Crime Fest challenges?
It just sounds odd how just now this kind of information would be important to the developers, after nearly "7 years" of the game's development.

well to me it look like a normal privacy policy

IP address or personal data collection is a very common business practice done by many companies. The one I concern is either faulty telemetry or rootkit-like anti-cheat program just like Valorant has.

I'm also curious why being such a hypocrite about it? On Steam page patch notes and Websites specifies only game stats and records. But inside the game itself privacy policy pops up and asks opposite. And regarding the poor typo and capital letters? I really doubt this is a mistake to write the "personal" data and IP it wants from you.

I better mail them and ask for reverses. Cause this is way shady looking.

Well, that's why I declined the collection of my data.

Things that we track are stuff like which heists are the most played (or the least played), average play session length and popularity of different weapons, perk decks and heisters.
We do not collect or store any personal information.

Hope this clears things up!

Uhh, huge no offence to OVERKILL_Elisabeth.

But what we saw with our own eyes is what is basically seen. You really expect me to believe now that they don't store server IP and etc. just because that privacy policy message popped up and included all of that?

Okay then... :awkward:

There's no need to argue about it on Elisabeth, the Privacy Policy decision thingy aren't Dev's decision anyway, I hope.

The only thing stupid about it is them being quite a bit late about it. It is something they should have done years ago instead of only listening to loudmouths.

Well, FBI Files already track nearly all of the listed stats except the play session lenghts so why not for example update it to track the needed data?

FBI files and similar sites used over the years are known to be unreliable on the long term.

Then perhaps update the FBI Files in some way to be.

Why do you assume FBI files are enough for them? Why do you assume they can use the data of it anyway?
It is like Overkill is stupid and works on systems but hey, some rando online just knows better than them how to do stuff with their game.
They did it for a reason. We do not know this reason, but they know it. They don't just collect data nilly-willy because they're like it.

Collecting the data directly from users will still be more reliable. FBI files data almost entirely depends on the users profile being set to entirely public. Just updating this won't magically change that.

No offense taken :)

As for the Privacy Policy, it mentions that we will process (read) personal data, but we do not store personal data. IP processing for example is helpful for us to validate which country you are in.

Have you questioned google, facebook, twitter, reddit, twitch?

Especially those first two, you'd likely be beyond unhappy if you knew what they truly collect and store.
