So did the H3H3 DLC go to FUPA or not?
I have been playing this game since 2015-2016. Needless to say, I have been a loyal fan. I stuck with it when the goings got rough, and I consider this to be one of my favorite videogames of all time. Having been with the game for so long, however, I witnessed the birth of the H3H3 DLC.

It started as an April Fool's joke, and it really should have stayed that way. But H3H3 got themselves sued, and Almir was a big fan, so they wanted to support him. While I was also a big fan of H3H3 at the time, I can't say I supported his inclusion into the game. With that being said, I could respect that they wanted to help the poor guy out financially. He was standing up for copyright all over the internet, after all. But then things changed. Ethan and Hila won the lawsuit before the DLC even came out, yet the DLC was still coming out. It was decided that all of this money would still benefit H3H3. But that's where things get a bit blurry.

Somehow, me and many other people got it into their heads that this money was going to be going to Ethan's charity, FUPA, which was designed to help content creators in similar situations as H3H3. As of yesterday, however, it was revealed in H3H3's Keemstar video that H3H3 kept the money for themselves, and they even called up Almir to confirm it.

I thought maybe I was the only one who remembered it this way at first.I saw no evidence that this money would be going to FUPA on the DLC page or the announcement, but then I decided to check the forums. As it turns out, many other people were also under the impression that this money would be going to FUPA. Here are the links to several threads that made mention of this money going to FUPA.

I'm just a little curious about how this whole scenario played out. How is it that such a large group of people remember this money going to FUPA? Was it all just a rumor? Did this money ever go to FUPA? I know it is catatonic now, but when the charity was still active, did money actually go to it? Or was it always intended to go to H3H3 directly? And how many people bought this DLC thinking they were supporting FUPA? And just a disclaimer, no, I do not support Keemstar. But ever since this whole debacle came about, I've hard a hard time supporting Ethan, either.

I don’t want to touch whatever YouTube drama has been going on with a ten foot pole, but the first sentence on the store page for the dlc actually mentions something along the lines of “all starbreeze proceeds go to Ethan and hila as per the starstream” I am not 100% sure as to the exact quote or stream in question right now thanks to being at my paying job and on my phone. I’d link the stuff I mentioned in question but like I just said I gotta get back to work.

Edit: phoned a friend and they got us all covered

AFAIK the money just vanished as the cause for it died before it even got rolling. It's never been said by Overkill how much money has been raised and where it went. People's money just goes into a black pit as far as I know. They money from the sales of the DLC still goes to them even now for some reason. That's why it can't be bundled with the rest of the game like the other old DLC was. Endless money going to a cause that doesn't exist, never seems to declare any results from the donations and ironically the hosts of it act completely counter to its supposed mission too now, it seems. Not that money going into a bottomless pit of mystery "charity" isn't bad enough.

What an embarrassment.

The salt in the wound must be H3's bare minimum effort in the DLC. They just did what they had to do to line their pockets and then left, ignoring that the game and company even exists beyond the checks coming in. There's lessons to be learned there with the whole disaster.

I believe Ethan said in the Keemstar video that Keemstar was accusing him of stealing "hundreds of thousands of dollars," so it's safe to say the DLC made some pretty solid money. Whether "hundreds of thousands" is an exaggeration to make Keemstar's accusations look worse as to paint Keemstar in a worse light or that's genuinely how much money the DLC actually made, we'll probably never know.

With that being said, I wouldn't care if the money was meant to go straight to Ethan from the get-go, it just seems strange to me that so many people were under the impression that this money was going to FUPA. Furthermore, I am curious how many people wouldn't have bought the DLC if they had known the money wasn't going to this charity. I'm sure it would have still made plenty of sales, between H3 fans and people who like to have all the DLC, but I'm sure there were people who were on the fence about buying it who bought it because they thought the money was going to a good cause.

The DLC right from the start was sold as a "charity" DLC, even while it was being made the cause was the thing it was all about. That's why the money is separate unlike ever other crossover out there with Payday. Remember there's crossovers with John Wick, Hardcore Henry other celebrities, etc. and those are all normal deals and part of the DLC packs or Overkills revenue. Only the H3 one is separate because it was meant to be a charity. There's no reason for it not to be like all the other deals otherwise.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a substantial sum by now as PD2 has a very large player base and sold a lot of DLC in its time. You'd only need the ~100K or so regular semi-regular players to buy a copy to get to hundreds of thousands of dollars, not even the wider base of owners which is in the millions.

If the money is not going to charity then the whole thing is dishonest and I have no idea why Overkill continues to put up with this arrangement of free money to H3.

As it even matters, lol. No one uses Ethan and Hila as mains or even henchmen. The deck "Tag Team" had a decent chance of being something good but they ruined it with the style of execution. The melee weapon is crap and the airbow was the borderline definition of P2W before the concealment got nerfed to oblivion. In short, it's already as if they don't exist in the game anymore. So whatevs

Perhaps they can like switch out Ethan and Hila for more interesting characters that actually have well made models.

Almir and Tobias would have done better job voice acting than Ethan and Hila

I do, because Hila is the only character in the game who isn't constantly screaming at the top of her lungs like a brain damaged DA. She's the best character in the game for that reason alone.

Lol sure dude, sure thing. Could've just said that you like her for that reason, but the fact that you're claiming she's the best character in the entire game for this moot reason is really immature I'll be honest.

There's a reason why every single PD2 character screams during a loud heist. You're in the middle of a heavy gunfight for hours and you have to take care of completing all these objectives while saving your arse from heavy swarm of enemies... Why the eff wouldn't you scream? Especially if you're injured, out of ammo, or need to let your crew about a special or powerful enemy? It's not stealth where everything is quiet and they can just whisper to each other ffs.

Hila is a person who's inherently quiet by nature. Your point is moot. If you like Hila and her quiet voice lines which pretty much nobody can hear unless they were really paying attention, you're free to like em. But don't give me that *best character in the game crap*

Too bad they made her player model anorexic, and her acting is really, really, REALLY not suited for a heisting game. Usually during a gunfight, you'd yell. But her lines are dull and unhearable. She might fit in another game, just not this one.

Best character in the game? Far, far, far from it. Nice opinion, though.

She's like slenderman in the game for her model. Anorexic and weird shoulders. Her acting is awful as it sounds like she recorded her lines while she was eating something and perhaps also while sitting facing away from the mic. Completely flat delivery like someone just got a random employee's wife or mom to do it at random with zero notice and she wishes she was somewhere else.

The answer is quite simple. I strongly believe H3H3 fanbois assumed it went to charity and spread that misinformation as an attempt to defend them.

What I am the most concerned about, and the reason why I wouldn't be against removing that DLC, is that H3H3 did nothing to stop that rumor from spreading. Seems kind of dishonest given that there is no way they didn't know about it.

I bought it myself thinking it was going to the charity... about the only reason I bought it since I use absolutely ♥♥♥♥ all in this pack.

It's the only DLC I don't own. I would happily buy it to support Overkill, but I don't know H3H3 and I don't want to give them my money. If Overkill ended this broken "arrangement" I'd buy the DLC tomorrow.

Joy: "Cloaker down, that's 10 points!"
Sydney: "Christ, can you move any slower?"
Bonnie: "Come on then ya Sassenach bastards."
Etc.
They yell this crap at the top of their lungs becauss they're a special kind of special. (All this talk about Hila not belonging in the game makes me laugh because none of the other heisters look or talk like hard core criminals that rob a bank. They're just as out of place as she is.)
