You have one down before you go gray.
If you lose all of your health you go down, or "lose a down". You have 3 before you go gray (or lose color in your vision). If you die after you go gray, you go into custody and must be traded by a teammate.
One Down takes away 2 of your 3 downs, so you can only die once before you need to use a doctor bag (doctor bags refill your amount of downs).
