Why is it called "Respeccing"?

Why is it called "Respeccing"?
Because you "Spec" into skills, so Respeccing means that you're redoing your speccing.

As for where the word "Speccing" comes from... I have no damn clue.

This is just an educated guess.

But I think "Speccing" is short for "Specializing"

As in "This Heister is specialized in inspire and dodge."

By the way, forget RPG thinking. These are profiles, not "characters". You can have up to 15 different profiles, and you can change them to bring the equipment the heists require. Even between days of heists.
Make your priority to buy the profile slots as soon as you can, they help a lot, and let you experiment with different builds much easier than remaking your build every time you want to change something.

It's a term dating back to Burning Crusade from World of Warcraft. You were allowed 1 "spec" and had to pay for a 2nd "spec" when you reached max level. These "specs" were the skill trees where you put your points upon leveling up for addtional stat bonuses, special effects onto spells and abilities, as well as unlocking entirely new spells and abilities that required certain "specs" to unlock.

The act of resetting these skill sets was known as "Respeccing", as Dungeons, Raids, and Battlegrounds all had different set-ups you ideally wanted to have.
