what happened to bain?

Inb4 "youre a month late" I just reinstalled the game and ive seen people saying he died? Went missing? Can someone explain what happened to him?

It appears that Murkywater found his position and raided him. Locke took over as the new Bain, and the crew is trying to find the "Holy Grail" that Bain was looking for before going missing.

He got raided durring reservoir dogs heist. He is assumed to be kidnapeed, some people believe he's dead. Only info we know from the game is that people Bain knew were listening and it's their job. Community decided to go with Murkywater, since they have resources and motives to go after Bain and manage to capture him (unlike FBI). It is also backed up by the fact Locke has lost most contacts from Murkywater and they basically cut all comms with him. Whether you believe it's Murky or not is up to you.

Forgot to mention, dunno if it's true, but Bain voice actor is now working on another project, I think with the Wolf voice actor. Maybe they didn't want to have another character which you would need to cut voice lines and duct tape them together every time new voice line is needed, especially if that character is basiclly 50% of the heist itself.
