DA is a flat damage reduction.
DR is a percentage reduction.

Max DA with Manic alone is 48. If a sniper shot you 240 damage it will be reduced to 192.
Same example but with Frenzy's 25% DR would make that 240 hit do 180 instead.

DA is great for enemies that do small damage as it can reducte damage to 0.
DR cannot reduce any damage to 0 unless you reach 100% DR, which is impossible.

Also, DA is added after DR so you can use both to reduce damage quite a bit.

Say you have Frenzy and max Maniac. The damage from a 240 sniper hit would be 132.

It's very hard to use effectively. Unless you have a full circle (which is fleeting, like a shy unicorn), the DA is eh.

It's nice when it works, but it's inconsistent. If you can get somebody to go crew chief for a bit of DR on top, it does get a bit better.

Personally I'd rather just go frenzerker crew chief.
thanks for the responses, one last question. I tried to use it in a DW game, but it seemed like the bar would barley go up, even though i was killing as many cops as i could. Also, it seemed like everyone else had more DA than me (Bigger blue circles). Is that a glitch or do i just suck?

If people have heavy armor then the bar will be small, if they are using light armor the bar will be big, it's comparable to the amount of armor the person has

The blue represents how much of your armor or HP is "protected".

So if you have a suit with maniac at a full circle, your entire armor bar + a bit of hp will be completely blue.

If you have an ictv, a small part of your armor circle will be blue because you have a lot more armor.

Also, it's very hard to keep your hysteria up. It drops every 8 seconds. You can only get 200(240?) every 4 seconds. Max hysteria is 600.

Yeah, you can see why it's a bit hard to make full use of it

You can only collect 240 hysteria stack per refresh (every 4 seconds) and the max hysteria cap is 600.

The blue circle depends on armour and is purely cosmetic but is shows the amount of armour (and health) the DA covers. It covers up to 48 armour and health.

So, if you have an ICTV with 220+ armour then that blue will only cover the amount 48 armour is on that circle while in a suit with 20 armour will have the whole thing covered as well as their health.

The blue circle is nothing. What matters is the white circle inside your health circle. The DA is the exact same for everyone, unless your deck is not complete. Maniac itself is a pretty lame deck, since it requires CONSTANT damage, pretty much non-stop.

The decay is 8s and refresh is 6s, if I recall correctly, so after the refresh, you supposedly get 2s of a full stack, if you shoot a lot. Also, the decay and refresh are like anarchist's armor regen. Even if your bar is empty or full, both don't stop cycling. So you might find yourself in awful times where you damage the ♥♥♥♥ out of everyone, but the decay hits a second later, so you get a tiny time of DA.

tl;dr don't use maniac without turrets and/or on higher difficulties, it's suicide

ABSORPTION means cops with weak weapons don't deal any damage at all. Zero damage. Stand there with 1 HP and no armor and get shot and nothing happens.

Yeah, for like, literally 2-4 seconds. Then you spend half a minute trying to get it back up.

Refresh is 4 seconds and on higher difficulties filling up hysteria is easy. All damage is converted to hysteria up to a limit of 240 per refresh.

If you want to use Maniac effectively I highly recommend shotguns as their high per shot damage and chance to collat makes them some of the best things to use for Maniac.

Remember, a single green has 240hp on Overkill. So, killing a single green every 4 seconds will max it out easy. Enemies do not even need to be kill for hysteria to be gained.

You can max out in 12-16, stay at max for 4 seconds, then keep maxing it out every 8 seconds.

So every 8 seconds assuming perfect play, you can take hits from the mooks somewhat well for 4 seconds. If you screw up the timers even once it gets mangled.

I'd rather have my reliable DR.

Oh? I thought it was kills that increased hysteria, not damage. I must have misread something AGAIN.
