How do I play the single player game?
I started Payday 2 for the first time and started playing some sort of campaign. First level was to steal a usb key from a laptop and some gold. I completed it, started the second level but then had to quit.

Now I started it again, and the interface looks completely different and the top option is just to buy some special edition of payday 2. I can't find anything that even remotely like a 'Continue' option. How do I get back into that campaign?

i swear this exact same question was asked before.

(There is no campaign, that was a tutorial level which is found on the left of crime. net. Crime. net is the main menu to find lobbies hosted by players or heists for you to host. There are heists that have some form of continuity, but there is no campaign.

Lobbies on crime. net that have people icons and a name on top are hosted by others, white icons with no player icons or names are heists that you can pick to host for free. To purchase a heist that YOU want to heist without waiting, buy one in contract broker)

To play offline, crime. net offline
online, crime. net

You're probably thinking of the "Getting Started" tutorial heists. The game doesn't have a campaign mode as such. As for those tutorials - go into the lobby browser (that is, Crime.net, either regular or offline) and look for the "The Basics" button in the lower left corner of the map. That'll let you do the stealth or loud tutorials again.

There is no campaign. While PAYDAY 2 does have a story it's told outside the game. I mean, I guess you could do all heists in the order that they would come in. What you played was simply the two tutorial missions.

Side note here - the tutorial heists (and some other heists) are multi-day things, that is they are comprised of several "missions". You have to complete all of them to earn the rewards, and if you quit out of them, you will have to start over.
