Edit: Your only real option is to host your own game and kick anyone you suspect.
Remember the days when i used to meet good players on every room...
NGBTO/VH
Lobby Player Info
Various HUD mods
Additional. The various mods listed above can also be used in anti cheating efforts. HUD mods can be used to monitor other player's usage of equipment, their ammuniton, and health statuses. Lobby player info is a another good mod to discern credible skillsets from actual XXV's to fakes. NGBTO/VH has a basic built in detector that will usually do a decent job in rooting out obvious dlc unlockers.
These mods aren't perfect but they sure are alot more useful than the current vanilla plus hud people are used to.
It would be great to see Overkill doing something about this.
Thanks everyone for the answer
Why does it matter? Somewhere out there someone is cheating at solitare and I don't care. The fun is in your own personal skills and success. It doesn't change what you have managed to do and the skills you've developed. Ignore that stuff and enjoy your game. That's what matters. If they come into your server then you kick the trolls, obviously.
This is the mod you want. Before you join any game it will let you know a little bit about the host. Look for "cheater flags" like low playtime-really high difficulty, a lot of achievements in little playtime, VAC bans, high infamy-low playtime.
Hidden profiles, eh, up to you, they don't necessarily cheat, but maybe they don't want you to know they play My Little Pony or have TF2 golden pan or whatever to avoid scammers. That said, more often than not, they hid their profile so you can't do what you just wanted to do i.e. inspect their legitimacy.
Did they ever improve the loading speed of lobby inspect? Tried it awhile ago and it just felt like it took longer to use the mod than to jump room from room. It was also limited by the fact that it only scanned the host and not the rest of the players in the room.
In my experience I find more clients abusing cheating mods/dlc unlockers than I do hosts.
It's pretty much instant for me, so...I don't know. It sends query to steam, so if steam's lagging, because of sales or something (L4D2 for free says hello) it obviously gonna act slower or not at all.
Client cheating, you can do nothing about them - host has to install mods that autokick cheaters or manually do that; you can't inspect them before you join anything, because they don't broadcast anything until you join the game with them on.
