Ammo Pickup Efficiency Spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xZOHggsoWQmC9zLUZXwupOoAcB9-lxWrbUWHjDLYMUU/edit?usp=sharing

I made a new spreadsheet that focuses specifically on how much of their total ammo different weapons will recover. This should be useful for picking weapons on your sentry build, because sentries use a percentage of your total ammo.
It will also be of interest to anyone else who just wants to take a look and see which weapons are efficient at ammo pickup and which are not.

Hope this is helpful. If you have questions or notice mistakes, let me know!

Thanks for your effort in this! I do have a question, however.

How does the game factor decimal pickup amounts? And would the results be the same if we rounded down to whole numbers?

For example, if the pickup spread per ammo box is 6.77 MIN to 12.44 MAX,
IN-GAME is this effectively 6 to 12 bullets per ammo box, or is there a chance you could get 13 bullets on some boxes?

Secondly, are these partial decimals taken into account once skills are applied? So if you multiply the minimum in this example...

6 x 1.35 (Walk-In Closet) = 8.1
vs
6.77 x 1.35 (Walk-In Closet) = 9.14

Nice work, thanks!

I do enjoy a well laid-out, nicely formatted spreadsheet. :)

The spreadsheet did consider rounding.

Originally posted by The Long Guide on Weapons Stats - Advanced Concepts:
By default, the game picks a floating point number between 1% and 3.5% of your maximum default ammo capacity for each gun, ignoring ammo capacity modifiers due to skills and weapon mods (e.g. Fully Loaded basic, Akimbo skill extra ammo, custom ammo types, assault and DMR kits), and then rounds it to the nearest integer, which becomes the number of rounds picked up.

Some sniper rifles deviate from this rule and yield less ammunition. The Thanatos in particular gives back ammo in a range between 0.05 and 0.65, which means that you have a 25% chance to get 1 bullet and get no bullets at all otherwise.

The ammo pickup bonuses multiply the values of the pickup range, i.e. Fully Loaded aced multiplies the values of the range by 1.75, whereas the perk deck bonus multiplies it by 1.35 (apart from the different magnitude, these two have the same effect, so the same concepts apply). E.g. the Thanatos with the 35% bonus has a new range of 0.05*1.35 to 0.65*1.35, which means a 47% chance to yield 1 bullet. With the 75% bonus, the chance becomes 61%.

Yeah exactly. I've hidden the decimals in part of the sheet, but rounding is a big part of it, especially for low pickup weapons. That's why getting a fully accurate calculation was so hard as well.

I've made a quick video to accompany the spreadsheet. Nothing special and possibly I ramble a bit too much. Hopefully useful though.

Very well done! there's a few numbers that are a bit off but don't change the results much, just a minor suggestion, maybe adding a pickup efficiency % right next to FL since that's always handy to have.
Zetnus Jul 15, 2020 @ 6:21am
I could run the whole thing for FL to get the averages for that perhaps. If that is useful.

As to why the numbers are a tiny bit off, I'm not sure. Probably because the two digit decimals displayed the More Weapon Stats mod aren't exactly what the game actually uses (since it likely does the percentages). The effect should be minimal though. Even just averaging the min and max isn't that far off after all.

I noticed you used paydaymods archive site for MWS, don't use that as it's outdated. Here's TdlQ page to his updated mods: http://pd2mods.z77.fr/home.html. (You also need Simple Mod Updater from his site since paydaymods is dead)

Edit: akimbo ammo pickup is off. The ammo pickup for akimbos should be even number only. https://old.reddit.com/r/paydaytheheist/comments/falpcb/auto_pistol_ammo_pickup_and_updated_ammo/fj0ei3w/

Thanks
Was not aware that of that. I'll update the link. When did the old site go down?
I'll look into the akimbo stuff.
Zetnus Jul 15, 2020 @ 10:56am
wait does this mean that the auto-updater for all the mods doesn't work anymore?

Edit: I see it does. will have to get the simple updater

EDIT2: Akimbo stuff fixed on the sheet. Thanks again for pointing that out!

paydaymods is dead on Feb, the site owner let the domain expire. Most mods is on modworkshop, some mods like WolfHud is on github (and other sites but there's only few mods not hosted on modworkshop); it still being updated via SuperBLT. TdlQ's mods however updates via SMU.

Not to necropost, but I've been using this Ammo Efficiency chart all the time and it's very useful, so thank you! Any chance to add the DMR Kit versions of weapons that have them, since they have alternate Ammo Pickup rates?

Thank you for continuing to update this!
Zetnus Feb 14, 2023 @ 6:51am
I think I should be able to do it. I just have to check if the More Weapon Stats mod actually displays the DMR info correctly.

Is there a list somewhere of all the weapons that have a DMR kit?
SleepyRaccoon Feb 14, 2023 @ 12:34pm
If I remember correctly, the only weapons that have a DMR Kit that also affects the ammo pickup are: CAR-4, AMR-16, and Gewehr 3. The new Akron HC also has a DMR kit, but it doesn't affect ammo pickup. I'm just going off the Payday 2 wiki though, so I might be a bit wrong. Payday 2 wiki also includes the 'new' ammo pickup if More Weapon Stats doesn't show them.
