Horrible Stuttering With No Frame Drops
I recently wanted to play Payday 2 again so I launched the game to only be welcomed with horrible stuttering. I have a RTX 2080Ti and a R7 3800x. My native resolution is 3440x1440. I turned off VSync and set all the graphics to the absolute lowest, set ingame resolution to 1080p and no change occured. The game is on a complete fresh install with no reshade or mods. Any suggestions or ideas as to what it could be? It's only this game that a problem like this has been so severe, thanks!

May be check C:\Users\ur name\AppData\Local\PAYDAY 2 open renderer_settings with notpad

and see if refresh_rate is the same as ur screen :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Both cards in the same system? That must be fun dealing with drivers...

I'd suggest moving "%APPDATA%\..\Local\PAYDAY 2" renderer_settings.xml
Disable in device manager, display adapters you don't want payday to use, then launch Payday 2 so it regenerates the renderer_settings.xml again, then enable the other display adapters.
You can also try disabling fullscreen optimisation in the payday2_win32_release.exe properties.

Thank you both for the suggestions, unfourtinately regenerating the renderer_settings.xml and setting the refresh rate to my native 120 refresh didnt work. I'm getting the same stutter. And sorry for the confusion, my GPU is the 2080Ti the R7 i meant for it to stand for Ryzen 7 3800x being my CPU

Are you running the latest nvidia drivers and have geforce experience installed?
Payday 2 has an optimisation - perhaps try and launch it via the geforce experience interface?
Otherwise - perhaps download the latest nvidia drivers and do a clean install, otherwise, soz I couldn't help.
I do know it should be fine, I'm running the same resolution ... 3440x1440@120Hz G-Sync but I only have an RTX 2070 / 9700K - Running nvidia driver version 456.55 if that helps.

Yeah I have the latest drivers, I ran the suggested optimization through GFExperience and nothing changed...until I decided to load an actual heist rather than the safehouse which incoincedentally was the root of all my stuttering? I never expected the safehouse to be so horrible for some reason but the moment I loaded an actual heist, 0 stutters, 0 issues, no problems whatsoever. Of all the actual things it could of been I least expected the home base to be giving me issues :| thank you sedman for the help, also do you by chance have the alienware AW3420DW? Cause I have that and its 3440x1440 120Hz Gsync literally the greatest monitor ive ever owned
I always had a doubt, There is an option in OPTIONS.. I dont know what it is, I think it was the VIDEO CACHE or something like that, I dont remember, but you can put a number,, that bothers me because I dont know what number to write.. I dont know if I have to lower it, or increase it. It also bothers me because this game should be all automatic, it should have detection.. or at least manage things in % perecentage..

In most games there are options like this I am told "increase this by 10 because when the game was realased it was too much but now it is too little".
Anyway, there are things about poor optimization in Payday2 that I dislike a lot, I still play the game though.. and they were thinking about releasing the 3... man.. you need to finish Payday 2 first.

And what about safes, there were removed?? now they just throw the skin to you..
Man! It was fun to keep the mistery for a couple of seconds!! (What's inside the safe!??? )
What happened?? why did they remove it??

I have a AOC AGON AG352UCG6, very close, but mine suffers an extra ms of input lag and runs at 4 ms response vs the Alienware's 2 ms response... I do get an extra inch though, and yea, these 120Hz curved screens are fantastic

Glad you worked out it was only the safehouse... probably all those trophies you have laying around ;)

It's a long shot but maybe you can try to run the game on cores that are on the same ccx, open the task manager, go to details, right click on payday2_win32.exe and click set affinity and there select the cores, also AFAIK the 3800x doesn't have integrated graphics but make sure whatever video cable you are using isn't plugged in the mobo.

Finally what do you have the game installed on ? If it's on an old crappy 5400rpm HDD that might be the issue, although the stuttering should stop once everything is loaded.

I’m good now, I have a 7200rpm 5tb drive but it wasn’t a slow drive issue, just the safehouse oddly
